(TDD/706-3692 for deaf or hearing impaired only) CITY COUNCIL LETTER Meeting of: May 3, 2010 AGENDA SECTION: ORIGINATING DEPT.: CITY MANAGER NO: Worksession Community Development APPROVAL ITEM: Discussion with the City of Minneapolis BY: BY: Scott Clark Regarding Central Ave. Streetcar Proposal DATE: Apri127, 2010 Background Information: On March 11, 2010 our Mayor and staff met with Minneapolis Counciimember Reich and staff to discuss Minneapolis' proposal far a streetcar system as part of their transportation plan. As part of their proposal, they viewed that an extension into Columbia Heights, running up Central Ave., is a logical part of the system. As such, they requested a meeting with our Council to discuss the same. A full power point presentation will be given in order to give all parties a sense of what a modern streetcar system looks like. The City has invited Commissioner Kordialc and the City of Hilltop (the latter has a conflict due to a Council meeting but may attend at the end of the meeting). Staff anticipates that the City of Minneapolis is seeking some contribution regarding planning funds. If you have any specific questions prior to the meeting please advance them to the Community Development Department prior to the meeting so we can relay them to the presenters.
