I. PROGRAMS
A. Final session of Winter Storytime was held on 3/2/2010
B. Spring Storytime began on 2/23/2010
C. Immaculate Conception classes and Global Academy classes visited the library the week of
3/8/2010
D. Staff participated in Highland elementary School’s Latino night on 3/16/2010. Materials on
library programs and policies were distributed thanks to translations provided by Andrea
Morales (District 13)
E. Encore classes from Columbia Heights School District met three times during the month of
March in the activity room.
F. Author Debra Frasier visited several local schools on 3/26/2010 and held a meet and greet at the
library for 31parents and children. She also signed and donated two books for the foundations
upcoming fundraiser. Thanks to Encore for moving their meeting to Murzyn Hall.
G. Lyric arts held a Fractured Fairytale workshop on 3/27/2010 for 15 children ages 2-12. The
workshop was followed by a mini performance that was attended by a total of 30. Thanks to
Mary Oliver from ACL for facilitating the workshop
H. Kids Read, Dogs Listen began again on 3/15/2010. This program is unbelievably popular. We
have opened up a second evening to accommodate the overflow. This program is funded in part
with a grant from the Minnesota Department of Education using federal funding, CFDA

84.287c, 21 Century Community Learning Centers.
I. Buddy up and Read with a Friend the Library’s adult Literacy program supported by the
Friends of the Columbia Heights Public Library matched the first buddy team in March. Star
Tribune interviewed the team for a potential article on the program.
J. Bulk loan of materials was provided on 3/25
II. COLLECTION
Staff continues to weed the easy non-fiction section.

The following sections were weeded in March
B. JCD782.154 A - 782.27, CD E P, Audio Book PQ,
Print 000-229, Audio book 000-229, Fiction P-Q did not get finished in March and will carry over to
April
C. First order for Books on CD was submitted
D. Collection development and replacements for paperback series titles is underway. Two orders
have been prepared and are ready to place.
E. Two book orders were placed this month.
III. PROJECTS

A. I developed a recommended booklist for 5 graders to be used countywide as a part of the
Summer Reading program.
B. Preparations were completed for National Library Week. Communities Thrive at your Library.
C. COH program listing for summer was submitted to ACL for inclusion in the Anoka County
Parks Brochure.
D. Heights Happenings articles to be included in the Summer 2010 (JE, JL, Aug) newsletter were
written and submitted.
E. Staff continues to work on Summer programming publicity and planning
IV. MEETINGS & GRANTS
A. I attended a Heighten the Arts meeting on 3/16/2010

B. I attended a 21 Century Grant meeting on 3/17/2010
C. I met with the Library Director regarding the Library’s volunteer program on 3/29/2010.
Publicity will be out in April requesting summer volunteers.
V. STAFF
A. Kelly Olson, Children’s Department Clerk, prepared and sent 5 book orders, completed the
weeding of the magazine collection, sent a Books on CD order, and prepared promotional
materials for National Library Week.
B. Cristy Tombarge, Library Aide prepared promotional materials for Author Debra Frasier’s visit,
Storytime, Fractured Fairytales, and Kids Read Dogs Listen. She updated the order files,
prepared National Library week Bulletin Boards for both floors and prepared a Teen Tech week
display and Bulletin board.
C. Staff has been very busy with patrons, shelving, processing materials weeding the collection
and aiding in program setup and preparations. My thanks to all the staff for the tremendous
effort they put forth.
