I. BUILDING MAINTENANCE AND EQUIPMENT
A. The public copier required a repair 2/4. It always happens during tax season!
B. Schindler Elevator performed the annual maintenance test on the elevator 2/5.
C. Steve Smith, long-time Library patron, volunteered to re-finish the top of the Boardroom
table. He completed the project 2/19, and it looks great.
D. Orkin performed routine pest inspection 2/18.
E. Fidelity buffed the Activity Room floors 2/12.
II. COLLECTION
A. A large order of collection development titles for the 600-639 adult section was ordered and
received.
B. Orders of cd’s and dvd’s were received.
C. Two adult paperback orders were placed.
D. Adult weeding is complete up to the Ficion N’s.
E. Replacement and added copy orders for books were placed.
III. PROGRAMS
A. Four sessions of preschool storytime were held during the month. Thanks to Kelly for telling
stories 2/23.
B. ISD#13 held three sessions of their “Encore” after-school programs in the Library’s activity
room during the month.
C. The Library Board met 2/3 with all members present.
D. The adult book club met 2/24 to discuss Infidel.
E. “Winter Jackets” reading club ended 2/28.
F. The classes from Immaculate Conception School and Global Academy visited the Library at
their regularly-scheduled times during the week of 2/1-2/5.
G. The Friends met 2/1 with 9 people in attendance. They have requested a wish list to be
presented at their March meeting.
IV. TECHNOLOGY
A. The upgrade to the City’s network created a little havoc with staff favorites, the structure of
the home directories, and the appearance of staff workstations. Jesse worked to get us all
back in line and we are all learning new procedures.
B. I met with Aleksandr and Jesse 2/5 about the Gates Grant computers. We finalized the
equipment to be ordered and set up a tentative schedule for installation.
V. STAFF
A. Marsha participated in a Heighten the Arts meeting 2/16.
B. Staff had the opportunity to tour the WorkForce Center in February. Staff was very
impressed with the facility, the staff, and the resources available. The public libraries are
cooperating with the WorkForce Center to see if the two agencies can make looking for a job
more similar for patrons and clients. Thanks to Monica for making the arrangements.
C. Interviews for the vacant Adult Services Librarian position were conducted 2/2 and 2/3.
Second interviews were held 2/12. A conditional offer has been made to a candidate.
D. I attended two meetings on a Broadband Technology Opportunities Program grant
application.
E. Stacey participated in a cable shoot for the Calendar Show 2/24.
VI. FOUNDATION
A. The Board met 2/10 with all members present. The Board welcomed their guest, Tracy
Shaffer, president of the local Women of Today chapter. Discussion centered on the
Spaghetti Supper and the Heights Theatre fundraiser and how to improve the way they are
conducted. Tracy announced the receipt of a grant from the State Women of Today
organization on behalf of the Foundation. The local organization will raise a matching
amount and present the total to the Foundation. Dates for both fundraisers were chosen.
VII. MISC
A. A MELSA crossover use survey was conducted 2/8-2/13.
B. The Library’s hours changed on March 1 to include an add-back of four hours per week.
The new hours are: Monday 9a.m. to 8 p.m., Tuesday 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Wednesday 9 a.m. to
8 p.m., Thursday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Thanks to the support of the Library Board, City Council, and City Manager for the addition
of these public service hours.
C. Representative Carolyn Laine held a Town Hall Meeting in the Library’s activity room 2/27.
D. Major Projects:
a. Filling the vacant Adult Services Librarian position
b. Preparation of the City version of the 2009 annual report
