I. PROGRAMS
A. Winter storytime began January 19 and will continue for six weeks.
B. Several sessions of Census testing were held during January
C. Classes form Immaculate Conception School and Global Academy visited
during the week of January 1-8 and January 11-15
D. Bulk loan of materials to area schools and classrooms was provided on
January 21
E. Magician Brodini performed to a large crowd on January 29.
II. COLLECTION
A. Weeding of the Easy Non Fiction and clean up of the records has begun.
This involves checking the titles and verifying that each title has the
appropriate location assigned.
B. YA Paperbacks have been weeded extensively based on age and
condition.
C.
Weeding of these areas of the collection was completed: JCD782.1 N - 782.14 J,
ECD O, E&JDVD O, Audio books, Fiction O
III. PROJECTS
A. Author Debra Frasier has been booked to visit local elementary schools on
March 26. Debra is a Minnesota author and well know not only for her
books but for a program she calls Vocabulary on Parade. ISD 13 will be
paying the fee for Debra’s visit and a book signing for the public has been
th
arranged for the evening of the 26.
B. Summer Reading program plans are underway. The 2010 themes will be
Make waves @ your library (teens) and Make a Splash @ your library
(elementary)
C. Copy was prepared and submitted for the spring edition of Heights
Happenings.
IV. MEETINGS
A. I attended a committee meeting of Heighten the Arts on January 19.
B. I participated in kindergarten registration at Highland on January 14 and
spoke to the group regarding the Library’s resources

C. I attended a meeting of the 21 Century Grant committee on January 13
V. GRANTS

A. 21 Century Grant program planning is well under way. We have the
following programs scheduled at this time:
Bill the Juggler, Wednesday June 16
Okee Dokee Brothers Wednesday June 30
Underwater Adventures Wednesday July 7
Magical Mia Wednesday July 14

These programs will be coming for the 21 Century Grant. A Complete
listing of all programs booked at this time and their funding sources is
attached.
B. I have been compiling a listing of foundations offering grant opportunities
open to either the Library or the Foundation. Most have application
deadlines of February, March or June in 2010.
C. I will be submitting fund requests for Wal-Mart and Target in February for
materials.
VI. STAFF
A. I held meetings with the pages to reinforce existing policies and to
reinstate procedures that were set-aside during the last year due to staff
shortages and changes in operating hours.
B. Children’s Clerk, Kelly Olson completed the weeding of the magazine
collection, sent and received several book orders, prepared sales tax
records for 2009, designed, prepared and printed the monthly edition of
Applaud featuring events and programs happening at the library in
January.
C. Library Aid, Cristy Tombarge completed final checks of several book
orders, set up a Valentine display, created a winter bulletin board for both
adult and children’s areas. Cristy also aided in the weeding projects and
prepared the first edition of the Teen Page, a monthly publication
promoting the materials and services of interest to teens at the library.
D. I met with the Director for my annual performance evaluation on January
20. Twenty-five years of service to the City of Columbia Heights, 15
years as Children’s Librarian. The Director is keeping me on staff.

Plans are in the works for additional programs to include a graphic artist, writing
workshop, American Girl reinstated, author/illustrators, and Abracadoodle.
I would also like to investigate a cooperative program with ISD 13 related to Family
literacy. A program that provides both adult and children the information they need to
become literate or to increase their literacy.
