Rebecca Loader, Library Director SUBJECT: January operational report DATE: January 28, 2010 I. BUILDING MAINTENANCE AND EQUIPMENT A. The windows were cleaned 1/2. B. NSI/Horwitz performed quarterly maintenance 1/21. C. Representatives from NSI/Horwitz toured the Library with me on 1/5 prior to a meeting about preparing specifications for replacement of the boiler and a rooftop heating/cooling unit. Peter Greene will be coordinating the project on behalf of NSI/Horwitz. D. The City’s new environmental services contractor, Veolia, delivered two new dumpsters 1/11. E. The departmental copier got a tune-up 1/14. F. I conducted a walk-through with Fidelity Cleaners 1/14. G. Fidelity buffed the Activity Room floors 1/15. II. COLLECTION A. A large paperback order was submitted in January, along with several “catch-up” orders from 2009. Purchase orders for adult dvd’s and books on cd were prepared. B. I am making progress on weeding Adult Fiction M. I am behind on weeding the music cd’s and reference. C. Many repairs have been done in conjunction with the weeding project. III. PROGRAMS A. The Library Board met 1/6 with 8 in attendance. B. Granny’s Closet picked up their collection box l/4. They received a nice variety of donated items. C. The Friends met January 4 with eight members present. The Friends set up the tax form distribution table and labeled all the boxes for easy maintenance of the display. D. Marsha attended kindergarten registration at Highland Elementary 1/14. E. The classes from Immaculate Conception School visited the Library during their regularly scheduled times the week of January 4. F. The classes from Global Academy visited the Library during the week of 1/11. G. The bulk loan was delivered to the school 1/21. H. Winter Jackets Reading Club started 1/11. As of 1/25, five people have submitted reviews to be included in the notebook on the desk. Elaine Dietz-Mamaril is coordinating the program due to a staff vacancy. I. The Adult Book Club discussed The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society on 1/27. J. The tax forms are available in the East Room. This program has changed dramatically since more people are doing e-filing. K. “The Magic of Brodini” will be presented 1/29. L. Two sessions of preschool story time were held during the month. IV. TECHNOLOGY A. I met with Aleksandr and Jesse 1/21 about the Gates Grant machines. We are planning to have the machines all installed before summer. B. Judy Soule rolled over the book orders so that Kelly could set up the funds and start ordering for 2010. V. STAFF st A. Marsha attended the 21 Century Grant meeting 1/13. B. Marsha attended a “Heighten the Arts” meeting 1/19. C. I proctored a test 1/20. D. I worked with Linda Magee to score the applications for the Adult Services Librarian 1/26. Interviews will be held the first week in February. th E. Marsha celebrated her 16 year as Children’s Librarian in January. F. Stacey participated in the cable show 1/27. G. Kelly compiled the sales tax data for the Library’s annual filing. H. I attended the Public Service meeting at ACL 1/28. VI. FOUNDATION A. The Foundation Board met 1/6 with five members present. Members brainstormed on the ways that fundraisers could be improved. This topic will be re-visited at the February meeting. VII. MISC A. Major projects: a. Shut down of 2009 funds and payment of final bills b. Preparations for the Library hours to change on February 1, 2010 c. Fill Adult Services Librarian full-time position d.
