I. BUILDING MAINTENANCE AND EQUIPMENT
A. Fidelity buffed the Activity Room floors 12/18.
B. Comcast replaced the two cable receivers with digital equipment 12/23.
C. Public Works replaced the tiles in the lobby ceiling, repaired the circulation desk, and
replaced the missing chair glides 12/22.
II. COLLECTION
A. Year-end book, dvd, and cd orders were all placed and received.
B. The
C. Adult weeding is complete through 921 C and fiction L. I hope to catch up on weeding in
January. Magazine weeding is complete. I continue to weed audiocassettes and
videocassettes ruthlessly. I hope to have these collections finished by the end of 2010.
D. The Pages are doing an excellent job of mending the books that are discovered during the
weeding process. The collection is looking very good!
III. PROGRAMS
A. The Library Board met 12/2 with six members in attendance. The Board welcomed new
member, Barbara Tantanella.
B. The Friends of the Library met 12/7 with nine members present.
C. The Friends collected 108 books through Project Bookshelf. These items were distributed
through the local Southern Anoka Community Action (SACA) food shelf.
D. The classes from Immaculate Conception School and Global Academy visited the Library
during the week of 12/1.
E. Marsha hosted four special tours for Head Start on 12/9 and 12/16.
F. Artist Marcia McEachern held a “Meet the Artist” program at the Library 12/9 to gain
public input into the art work she is planning for installation at the site of the two new gyms
near Columbia Heights High School.
G. The bulk loan was delivered to the schools 12/17.
IV. TECHNOLOGY
A. The Library staff network is now connected to the new 1 Gbit/s fiber that was installed for
the Public Safety Building. Staff is seeing faster log-ins and access to Groupwise and
drives.
B. Use of the ACL Intranet is increasing since it has been loaded on all staff machines in the
building. It is updated every Friday with the latest version.
V. STAFF
A. Kelly and I were pleased to serve on the Employee of the Year Selection Committee this
year. The award is granted by employees to their peers and recognizes outstanding service. I
am delighted to announce that Bill Elrite, Finance Director, has been selected as the 2010
Employee of the Year. Bill is a strong Library supporter and has helped with many projects
concerning automation. Kudos!
B. I met with Marlene Moulton-Janssen, Director of ACL, 12/1 to discuss several issues.
C. I attended a meeting at Northtown on 12/16 about the Legacy Funds dollars that will be
available for programming in 2010. It was an excellent meeting with active participation
and exciting ideas.

D. Marsha and I met with Linda Ernst, Grants Coordinator for ISD #13, on 12/17 about the 21
Century grant. It was a very productive meeting, and the Library is set to start utilizing the
grant moneys.
E. Staff attended the annual City Holiday Luncheon 12/9, and we all enjoyed a delicious meal.

Marsha received her 25 anniversary award, and I received my 35 anniversary award. It is
hard to believe that between us, we have 60 years of City service. Thanks to all the people
who made the event possible.
F. Marsha attended a meeting at Northtown 12/10 on the 2010 Summer Reading Program.
G. I attended the City Council meeting 12/14, where the proposed 2010 Library budget was
approved. I am very pleased that four hours of open time will be restored to the Library’s
schedule and that the vacant Adult Services Librarian position will be filled.
H. Marsha attended several Heighten the Arts meetings during the month.
I. Matthew Stenberg, Rukia Sheikh-Mohamed, and Regina Jesse had performance reviews
during the month.
J. Stacey participated in the “Heights Calendar Show” on cable 12/2 and 12/29.
VI. FOUNDATION
A. The Foundation sponsored two silent auctions at the Heights Theatre 12/12 and 12/13. The
silent auctions were well received by the attendees and contained wonderful items donated by
various patrons, staff, friends, Board members, and local businesses.
VII. MISC
A. Granny’s Closet placed a collection box in the Library for the month of December.
B. Most of the Federal Income Tax forms have been received. The State Income Tax forms
have been ordered.
