I. PROGRAMS
A.
Final session of the fall storytime was held on November 17.

The Library participated in the 10 Anniversary of R.E.A.D (Reading Education Assistance

Dogs) and kept 5 teams busy on Saturday November 14.
This event was funded in part by a grant

from the Minnesota Department of Education using Federal funding, CFDA 84.287c, 21 Century
Community Learning Centers.

C. Classes from Immaculate Conception School visited during the week of November 2.
D. Classes from Global Academy visited on November 5 and 6.
II. COLLECTION
A. Several orders for books were placed in preparation for year end
B. An order for Children’s DVD’s and Book and CD combinations was placed.
C. Juvenile weeding is complete through J940.53
D. Collection development /updating of the paperbacks has begun and is scheduled for completion
in January 2010.
III. PROJECTS
A. Staff has been working with the Foundation in preparation for the upcoming Silent Auction.
Numerous donations have been received. Thanks to everyone for the support.
IV. GRANTS
A. The Library director and I met with a representative from the Columbia Heights Women of
Today. The organization is interested in applying for a grant to benefit the Foundation’s capital
campaign.
B. Approximately half of the Dollar General grant has been spent. I anticipate the remainder to be
spent by the middle of December.

C. Planning has begun for programming related to the 21 Century Grant. I anticipate programs to
be underway by February.
D. The Picturing America Grant has been well received. The images are beautiful and we are
working with school, daycares and learning centers to make the most of the program.
V. STAFF
A. The children’s department staff has again been very busy this month. We are pushing to get
things accomplished before year’s end and are still short handed. I fear we may not make some
deadlines but have placed the budget and public service at the top of the list. Thanks to all the
staff for their dedication to the library and to the citizens of Columbia Heights. They have
worked over and above what could be expected of them.
