I. PROGRAMS
A. Global Academy classes began once a month visits to the Library the week of 9/17.
B. Fall Pre-school story time sessions began the week of September 29.
C. I attended District 13 ELL Family Nights at North Park, and CHHS.
D. The first bulk loans of the 2009-2010 school year went out the week of September 21.
E. Classes from Immaculate Conception School started their monthly scheduled visits
the week of September 14.
F. Baby Read/Baby Grow story time started September 16 and will be weekly for 6
weeks.
G. Fall session of Read Dogs began on September 23. We have two teams on
Wednesday evenings and one team on Saturday’s.

H. Columbia Heights CMS 8 grade student Jackie R. Anderson won the Express
Yourself Bookmark design competition for 2009. Jackie will receive a framed print
of her design as a part of winning. Her design will be professionally printed and
distributed countywide.
II. COLLECTION
Weeding of the quarto collection is complete

Weeding of the J Fiction collection is complete through JFIC K

Weeding of the YA Fiction collection is complete through YA FIC M

Weeding & repair of the EJ paperback collection is complete through M

Book orders were placed from BWI listings

Collection development is underway in the CD’s, DVD’s Boardbooks and EJ fiction

III. PROJECTS
The Library hosted a training workshop for potential R.E.A.D. teams at Murzyn Hall on

September 26. Nine individuals participated and five signed up to volunteer at the
library.
IV. GRANTS
The Library received a grant through Dollar General. Funds will be used to provide
A.
materials in the High Interest Low Vocabulary area, boardbooks in the areas of early
literacy and concepts, informational DVD’s and book and CD combos.
V. MEETINGS
A. The first monthly 2009 meeting of the Heighten the Arts committee was held
A.
September 22. I was unable to attend due to a scheduling conflict.
VI. STAFF
Kelly Olson attended the ECFE Family Night on September 10 as a representative of the
A.
Library.
Kelly Olson conducted a refresher workshop on Library card applications for the pages.

Cristy Tombarge developed two new book displays and aided in the preparation of a
C.
number of Book orders.
Staff continues to be extremely busy at the circulation desks and monthly and annual
D.
tasks are behind schedule due to staff and hour shortages.
