B. The Library’s hours changed on March 2 to reflect a nine-hour per week reduction in public
service hours at Columbia Heights. Two part-time employees were laid off, one part-time
employee resigned, and a vacant full-time position was filled with a 25-hour per week
interim employee. All part-time employees’ schedules were either reduced or changed, and
all full-time employees’ schedules were changed. The patrons are adjusting to the new hours
slowly and are experiencing waiting lines at the service desk. The bookdrop is no longer
being emptied on Sundays, so it is full to the top on Monday mornings. Delivery within the
County changed to Monday-Wednesday-Friday-Saturday to accommodate the mornings the
building does not open till late.
