Rebecca Loader, Library Director SUBJECT: January operational report DATE: January 27, 2009 I. BUILDING MAINTENANCE AND EQUIPMENT A. Honeywell performed a boiler check 1/26. B. The windows were cleaned 1/21. C. I conducted a walk-through with Fidelity Cleaners l/2 and 1/13. It is nice to have a permanent cleaner assigned to the building, and she is doing a good job. D. Public Works picked up a load of accumulated, assorted junk 1/15. The items were not worth putting into the annual auction. E. Public Works replaced a faucet fixture 1/16. F. Fidelity buffed the Activity Room floors 1/16. II. COLLECTION A. I am working on a large paperback order. B. Weeding of Adult Fiction F and G is complete. I am behind on weeding the music cd’s. C. Staff is playing catch-up with book orders. Kelly and Stacey are working on placing orders and getting items attached as quickly as possible. III. PROGRAMS A. The Library Board met 1/6 with 8 in attendance. B. Granny’s Closet picked up their collection box l/2. They received a nice variety of donated items. C. The Friends met 1/5 with eight members present. I am serving as their liaison on a temporary basis. D. Marsha attended kindergarten registration at two elementary schools on 1/8 and 1/14. E. The classes from Immaculate Conception School visited the Library during their regularly scheduled times the week of 1/12. F. The Indonesian Dance program 1/12 drew a small crowd. G. Winter Jackets Reading Club started 1/15. Staff is very excited about this first-time program sponsored by MELSA. As of 1/28, 116 people are registered. Thanks to Library Supervisor Renee Dougherty for coordinating the program due to a staff vacancy. H. Marsha led a book discussion on Confessions of Max Tivoli on 1/29. Marsha is covering the program due to a staff vacancy. I. The tax forms are available in the East Room. This program has changed dramatically since more people are doing e-filing. J. Two sessions of preschool storytime were held during the month. IV. TECHNOLOGY A. Aleksandr and Jeff installed a different switch for the networks 1/9. B. I attended the ILS meeting at the County 1/28 with Aleksandr and Jeff from the City’s IS Department. Progress is being made on the transfer of maintenance for the ILS to the City. C. Judy Soule rolled over the book orders so that Kelly could start ordering for 2009. V. STAFF A. Marsha attended several Comprehensive Arts Planning Program (CAPP) meetings during the month. B. Marsha attended the storytellers meeting at Northtown 1/14. C. I attended several budget-related meetings during the month. th D. Marsha celebrated her 15 year as Children’s Librarian in January. E. Stacey participated in the cable show 1/28. F. I attended the Public Service meeting at ACL 1/29. G. Betsy Bush, Library Page, has submitted her resignation effective 1/31. VI. FOUNDATION A. The Foundation Board met 1/7 with eight members present. Treasurer Sharon Shedlov presented the year-end report. Several donations have been received from the Library’s open house. The Board reviewed the 2008 fundraiser at the Heights Theatre and tentatively selected 12/6/09 for the 2009 fundraiser. VII. MISC A. I met with Andrew Hogg from Public Works on 1/6 about the requirement for public education about storm water. Public Works will install a brochure rack by the back door and keep it stocked with information for the residents. B. Major projects: a. Shut down of 2008 funds and payment of final bills b. Honeywell contract c. Budget work i. Much of my time this month has been spent dealing with the proposed 2009 budget and the requirements to find cost savings and increased revenues. ii. I met with the temporary/seasonal part-timers 1/24 to go over funding information and to discuss how they will be affected. d.
