Rebecca Loader, Library Director From: Marsha Tubbs, Children’s and Young Adult Librarian Subject October 2008, Operational Report Date: October 27, 2008 I. PROGRAMS A. Fall Storytime sessions have been drawing large crowds. Average attendance is around 30 children. B. Immaculate Conception classes visited the library the week of October 6. C. Global Academy classes began visits to the library this month. D. Several Teachers for District 13 have requested corporate cards for classroom collections. E. The first Baby Read Baby Grow Storytime was held on October 23. Due to the overwhelming response we expanded to two sessions for the remainder of the program. F. COLLECTION A. I am preparing final book orders for 2008 and holding them until year-end funding totals have been confirmed. B. An order for additional copies of the Maud Hart Lovelace titles was placed. Teens will have the option of voting on their favorite at the library again this year. C. Weeding of the J 600-J744 and the J Fiction C and D sections are complete III. PROJECTS & MEETINGS A. I attended a CAPP (Comprehensive Arts Planning Project) meeting on October 23 at the Columbia Heights High School. B. I attended ELL Family Nights at Highland Elementary, and North Park Elementary as well as Central Middle School. The Elementary Crowds were smaller than the last two years. C. I presented the Anoka County Library /Columbia Heights Library catalog options to a group of High School Ms Ole Nelsons students. Twenty-one students in all were shown how to access the Library catalog, where to view their accounts, online resources, MNLink, book lists and several other search options. D. The Summer Reading Club wrap-up meeting was held at ACL on October 4. Registrations for summer Reading were down in some locations and up in others. It is the belief that families were traveling less and conserving gas hence smaller libraries showed increases while larger locations lost small numbers in registrations. COH showed a small increase this year. IV. GRANTS A. Century Independent School District 13 announced their plans to apply for the next round of 21st funding.In the past, the Library has partnered with ISD 13 in this grant application. The Library Director and I will be discussing possible options for our future grant initiatives over the next few weeks. B. On October 27, I joined other members of the CAPP committee (Liz Bray, Diane Scully, Mary Bussman) in a meeting with MRAC representative Gwen Cannon. The committee members were interested in investigating the option of MRAC grant funds to be utilized as a part of the CAPP community arts objective. V. STAFF A. Library Clerk, Kelly Olson provided a Storytime session while I was on vacation. She also prepared year-end budget figures for the director, placed book orders and received magazines. B. Library Aide, Cristy Tombarge established a Maud Hart Lovelace slatwall display, created materials for use at ELL open houses and prepared a booklist based upon titles recommended by a local teen user. C. Pages aided in the weeding of J nonfiction and J fiction, continued checking of selection tools and set up for programs.
