Rebecca Loader, Library Director From: Marsha Tubbs, Children’s and Young Adult Librarian Subject: September 2008, Operational Report Date: September 16, 2008 I. PROGRAMS A. Fall Storytime session began September 23 B. Immaculate Conception Classes began monthly visits to the library the week of September 15. C. The first Book Club Café met on September 23. Jill Yngve from Simon & Schuster volunteered to tag team the program with me. Participants discussed the title City of Ember due to be released as a movie this fall. D. The 4-H Fall Round-Up was held in the Activity Room 9/25. E. COLLECTION A. Three book orders were prepared for placement through Baker and Taylor. B. Final book order for Books on CD was placed for 2008 C. Maud Hart Lovelace book order was prepared for placement through Baker and Taylor. III. PROJECTS & MEETINGS A. Preparations are underway for our first infant storytime. A collaboration between the Library and ECFE, the program is entitled “Baby Read Baby Grow” Registrations are filling fast. B. I attended the ECFE open house on September 11. Several families registered for the “Baby Read, Baby Grow storytime. Information on Library cards, hours and booklists were made available. C. I am scheduled to visit Columbia Heights High School on October 24 to present the library’s catalog options to an Advanced Placement class. This will be the first time we have attempted this type of program off site. D. I attended a Library Board meeting on September 9 and along with Mary Bussman, Principal at Valley View, and provided the Library Board with a presentation on the Comprehensive Arts Planning Program (CAPP). th E. I also attended a CAPP sub committee meeting on September 29. The subcommittee consists of Liz Bray, Wilbur Hill and myself. We will be tackling the community portion of the CAPP program and looking for was that the community can partner with ISD 13 in bringing arts to the community as a whole IV. GRANTS A. I submitted a grant application for a Lois Lenski Covey grant requesting $3000.00 for materials. B. Received notification from MRAC that our final report had been received and they are looking forward to another grant application from the Library Foundation. C. Ordered additional materials from the Dollar Store Grant V. STAFF A. Library Aide Cristy Tombarge established a Maud Hart Lovelace book display featuring the new contenders for the award and established a Halloween book display to feature our holiday titles.. Cristy also prepared flyers and posters for the Foundation’s Spaghetti Dinner, Arts and Culture programs, Fall Storytime, Baby Read Baby Grow, and the Book Club Café. The Children’s department has a new bulletin board “Vote for Books” and the lobby featured a “From Books to Movies” display due to Cristy’s efforts. Cristy has also begun work on the foundation’s fundraiser for December. B. Library Clerk Kelly Olson sent and received several book orders, prepared month end statistics for September and stepped in as storyteller for two storytime sessions while I was on vacation.
