PROGRAMS A. Summer Reading Program started 6/1. Totals as of June 19, 2008 What's Cookin': 358 Plug In: 100. B. Volunteens began working the week of June 11. C. Four sessions of preschool storytime were held. Average attendance of 52 per session. D. Wacky Wednesday began June 11 with three performances being held this month. Average attendance was 120 per session. II. COLLECTION A. Several hardcover book orders were placed to Baker and Taylor. B. Replacement order was also placed to Baker and Taylor. C. A new standing order was created for the America The Beautiful states series. D. Book and CD combinations were ordered. E. Music CD’s were ordered. F. Final order was placed to the Dollar General Grant. Evaluation is due in December. G. Collection development of the YA fiction was completed. II. PROJECTS Preparations are underway for the first Columbia Heights “Baby Read, Baby Grow” storytime. I A. will be collaborating with an educator from ECFE to provide two separate sessions. The first session is scheduled to begin in October of 2008 and a spring session is currently scheduled for April 2009. A tentative schedule has been established for a series of program titled “Arts and Culture at the B. Library”. This series will begin in October with two programs scheduled for 2008 and an additional four programs scheduled for 2009. Staff prepared and decorated a flatbed for use in the Jamboree Parade on June 27. C. READ dogs will return this summer on Thursday evenings from 6:00-8:00 p.m. We are D. currently taking registrations for 15-minute time slots. A Fall READ Dog program is tentatively scheduled for Thursday evenings beginning in October. III. GRANTS Expenditures for the Dollar General Grant were completed. A. Expenditures for the After School Activity Learning Grant were completed. B. IV. STAFF Library Aide, Cristy Tombarge has been very busy compiling statistics on our summer programs. A. These stats are required as a part of the After School Activities Learning Grant. While time consuming, I am anticipating that they will give us a very complete picture of the effectiveness or non-effectiveness of our programming efforts. Christy also updated order invoices and reorganized the print room as well as establishing new book displays for the month. Children’s Department Clerk, Kelly Olson has been busy at the circulation desk. We have fewer B. volunteers this year and Kelly has been handling the brunt of the reading program registrations. She also sent and received 4-6 book orders and received magazines. Pages have been busy with program registration and a tremendous amount of shelving. Business C. is brisk at the circulation desk. Volunteens spent the month registering children for programs, and aiding in the preparations for D. Jamboree Parade.
