I. BUILDING MAINTENANCE AND EQUIPMENT
A. Fidelity buffed the Activity Room floors 6/20.
B. The blinds were cleaned 6/24.
C. Graffiti was removed from the men’s room 6/24.
D. The mats were cleaned 6/3.
E. Heights Electric replaced several ballasts in the Adult Reading Room 6/13.
F. The tree in the south yard of the Library was damaged by winds 6/8. Public Works was able
to trim the damaged part off the trunk and will monitor if the tree will continue to thrive.
G. Honeywell performed routine maintenance on the HVAC 6/4 and 6/11. The filters on the air
handler were changed 6/18.
H. Honeywell worked on the air conditioning unit over the East Room 6/12.
I. Public Works changed out all the burnt-out lightbulbs 6/11.
J. Graffiti was removed from the southern stairwell 6/10.
K. The windows were cleaned 6/11.
L. Orkin performed routine maintenance 6/19.
M. Dana conducted a walk-through inspection with Fidelity Cleaners 6/18.
II. COLLECTION
A. One paperback and four hardcover book orders were placed during the month.
B. Dana updated all the editions in the reference project and selected titles for the annual large
print order.
C. Volunteer Shari Alexon shifted the reference collection 6/24.
D. Weeding completed during the month: 628-639; Fiction A, Mystery A, Mystery B.
E. 10-day book requests were added weekly.
III. PROGRAMS
A. Summer Reading Program started 6/2. The themes for 2008 are “What’s Cookin’ @ Your
Library” and “Plug In @ Your Library.”
B. The Friends met 6/2 with 9 members in attendance.
C. The Library Board met 6/3 with 8 in attendance.
D. The Library Board, Foundation Board, and staff participated in the Jamboree Parade 6/27.
The summer Volunteens started working the week of 6/9.
E. Staff presented three sessions of preschool storytime in June.
F. Three Wacky Wednesdays were held: Magician Matt Dunn (6/11), Bill the Juggler (6/18),
and storyteller Ross Sutter (6/25).
G. Dana led a discussion on The diary of Mattie Spenser 6/26.
H. Vickie Wendel presented a Minnesota statehood program entitled “Minnesota 150” on 6/15.
I. Marsha visited the schools during the week of 6/2 to promote the Summer Reading
Programs.
IV. TECHNOLOGY
A. Columbia Heights IS personnel, Anoka County IS personnel, CHPL staff and ACL staff met
6/16 to discuss the implications of the proposed merger of the ACL IS Department with the
Anoka County IS Department. Another meeting has been scheduled after all parties research
designated alternatives and assignments.
V. STAFF
A. I met with representatives from two companies about a proposed print manager for the 2009
budget.
B. Dana attended a Staff Day meeting 6/30.
C. Stacey participated in a cable shoot for the “Calendar Show” 6/25.
D. I attended the ground breaking ceremony for the new gyms at the High School 6/26.
E. I attended the Jamboree Parade meeting 6/18. The Library’s entry will use the theme from
Summer Reading Club. Staff will be joined by the Library Board, Foundation Board, and
Volunteens.
F. I attended the Library Operations Council
G. Summer schedule started 6/9. All three new Pages are on the regular rotation.
H. Graduating Page, Teri Olberding, was honored at a breakfast hosted by the staff 6/55.

I. Kelly celebrated her 16 anniversary with the Library during the month.
VI. FOUNDATION
A. The Foundation Board met 6/18 with eight members present. New President Marlaine
Szurek led the discussion on the spaghetti supper and the Heights Theatre Fundraiser.
Members brainstormed on new ideas for the Silent Auction. The movie will be “Christmas
Story,” and we will try to use themes from the movie in the Silent Auction.
VII. MISC
A. Saturday hours changed to 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. 6/7. These hours will remain in effect till
9/6.
B. The 2009 proposed budget was turned in to Finance 6/12.
C. Two bikes were stolen 6/9.
D.
E. The Columbia Heights Police Department started stationing a Community Service Officer
(CSO) at the Library on two days during the week for two-hour blocks of time on 6/11. The
program is part of an effort to heighten awareness of public behavior and to improve
courtesy among the various patrons using library services.
