Rebecca Loader, Library Director From: Marsha Tubbs, Children’s and Young Adult Librarian Subject: May 2008 Operational Report Date: May 22, 2008 I. PROGRAMS A. 5/12 Ketzal Coatlicue (Aztec Dancers) performed for a crowd of 37. B. 5/15 Mike the Baker (Mike Mann) told stories and brought cookies to 29 children and parents. C. 5/21 Author/ Illustrator Nancy Carlson visited three ISD #13 elementary schools and provided an evening program at the library. C. 5/1 Bulk loan was delivered to area schools. D. 5/22 All bulk loan materials were picked up and schools notified of items not returned. II. COLLECTIONS A. Completed weeding of J fiction up to J FIC D. B. Completed weeding of J 629- J639. C. Placed an order for missing Nancy Carlson titles. Several titles no longer have database entries. D. Completed collection development of the J fiction and placed an order for materials to update the section. E. Placed one Baker and Taylor order from School Library Journal 1/2008. F. Ordered CD books from Listening Library. III. PROJECTS A. Completed preparations for both summer reading programs. See attached documents for explanations of Columbia Heights Summer Reading Activities. B. Prepared copy for summer program flyer and summer event calendar. C. Completed programs funded by After School Community Learning Program Grant. D. Completed 6 additional booklists for young adults with the aid of Lynn Tollefson, evening supervisor. E. Planned and scheduled READ dog program for Summer 2008. IV. MEETINGS A. 5/6 I met with Linda Ernst from ISD 13 regarding After-School Community Learning Grant. B. 5/8 I met with representatives from Minnesota Department of Education and representatives of ISD 13 regarding READ dog program. C. 5/20 I joined the Library Director and Adult Services Librarian for summer scheduling with library pages. Distributed materials related to summer programs. D. Met with volunteers to establish summer schedule and train on library policy and program procedures. V. GRANTS A. Nearly all funding related to the After School Community Learning Program Grant has been expended. We have 1-2 additional supply expenditures to submit in the next quarter, but they should be minimal. B. Orders were placed toward the Dollar General Grant and a spreadsheet created to track the titles. I will be checking circulation totals for each item and creating a final report in December. VI. STAFF A. Pages have been busy with cutting, folding, etc materials for all summer programs. They checked selection tools for book orders, aided in weeding of materials, and aided in preparations for programs. B. Library Aide, Cristy Tombarge printed program supplies, prepared booklists, established a New York Times book display, created and installed bulletin boards and aided in the selection process. C. Library Clerk, Kelly Olson sent and received several book orders. She received magazines and prepared month end statistics. Kelly also created layout for Summer Reading program flyers, t- shirt designs, and developed training packets for volunteers.
