The Friends of the Library met on April 7 at the Dragon House restaurant. The group is currently volunteering with the Read Dog program on Thursday nights at the library, and are still considering the possibility of a fundraiser. b. At Home service added two new patrons this month. Fifty-nine items were delivered in April as a part of this program. c. The volunteers in the library have been busy straightening and maintaining some areas of the collection, and cleaning shelves. One of the volunteers did a fantastic job of shifting the CD collection into the new shelving. d. The response to the book discussion group has been outstanding. The participants have decided to continue to meet through the summer months, and will pick the titles to be discussed for the rest of the year at the next nd meeting on May 22. II. Collection a. A large DVD order was placed with Baker and Taylor this month. Some replacement copies of the Star Wars and Indiana Jones series were purchased in anticipation of the summer season. The Roots VHS tapes were replaced with DVDs, and many Oscar-winning titles have been purchased as well. b. The usual standing order for two books on CD was placed this month. In addition, the library has received a grant from Dollar General for Young Adult books on CD. The titles for this collection have been selected, and will be cataloged mainly in the adult area. This grant will add a significant number of CD books to the library just in time for summer driving season. III. Projects a. Preparations for the Jamboree Parade have begun. Heights Rental has generously donated the use of a trailer for the parade. The city will provide a vehicle to pull the trailer. b. Fidelity cleaning service is in the process of hiring a new cleaner for the building. In the meantime, two experienced cleaners have been covering the shifts at the library. c. The displays in the lobby include, “Join the circle of knowledge” for National Library Week, and spring flowers on the slat board display.
