March operational report

I. BUILDING MAINTENANCE
A. The windows were cleaned 3/4.
B. On 3/13, the trench outside the west wall lost caulking in an expansion joint, and water
leaked into the storage room downstairs. Thanks for Public Works for fixing the problem
and to the Children’s Department staff for moving books so quickly that no materials were
lost.
C. The Library passed its annual Fire Department inspection 3/19.
D. Fidelity buffed the Activity Room floors 3/21.
II. COLLECTION
A. Weekly book orders were placed and received. Beginning 3/18, 10-day adds will be ordered
on Tuesday mornings after the List Purchase Report is checked on Mondays. These items
will be processed and attached on a priority basis.
B. Pages are working on the adult non-fiction mending project.
C. Ramon and Becky are working on the open entries project. The first area to be examined is
travel. Standing orders are in the process of being changed.
III. PROGRAMS
A. Adult Winter Reading Club (“Hot Reads for Cold Nights”) ended 3/4 with 61 participants.
B. The classes from Immaculate Conception School visited the Library 3/10-3/14 during their
scheduled times.
C. The Friends met 3/3 with 8 members present.
D. Dana conducted an ESL tour 3/3 for 5 participants.
E. The Library Board met 3/11 with five members in attendance.
F. The bulk loan was delivered to the schools 3/6.
G. Ron Rabinovitz, life-long pen pal of Jackie Robinson, presented a program 3/11.
H. Larry Yazzie, Native American Fancy Dancer, presented a program 3/10.
I. Three sessions of preschool storytime were held during the month.
J. Nancy Soldatow led a book discussion group on The kite runner 3/27.
K. Marsha and one of the R.E.A.D. dog teams visited North Park Elementary School 3/10 to
help promote the program.
L. R.E.A.D. Dogs started 3/6 and has been incredibly popular. The local newspaper featured
one of the teams on the front page recently. The program is funded by the After School
Grant with ISD #13.
M. Marsha participated in a special program at the Family Center 3/6.
N. Dana and Cristy worked on a library-related display for the display case at City Hall.
IV. TECHNOLOGY
A. Becky attended a presentation 3/7 on the PACOM security system, which utilizes a card
system. The Library is very interested in installing such a system, which could include
security cameras.
V. STAFF
A. Becky attended the LOC meeting at ACL 3/6.
B. Stacey participated in a cable shoot for “The Calendar Show” 3/27.
C. Ramon Gomez completed his first year of service as a Library Clerk.
D. Dana and Marsha attended various sessions of the national Public Library Association
convention in Minneapolis 3/25-3/28.
E. Becky met with Marlene Moulton-Janssen 3/13 about various procedural questions.
F. Marsha wrote and received a grant from the Dollar General Store Corporation.
G. Marsha attended the CAPP grant planning session 3/10.
H. Lynn Tollefson joined the staff 3/10 as a part-time Library Supervisor. Her training was
completed 3/27, and her first “solo” day will be 3/31.
I. Regina Jesse started as the new part-time Library Clerk 3/17.
J. Stacey Hendren completed six-months of work as the Clerk-Typist II (Adult).
VI. FOUNDATION
A. The Foundation Board did not meet in March.
