Rebecca Loader, Library Director SUBJECT: February operational report DATE: February 25, 2008 I. BUILDING MAINTENANCE A. The windows were cleaned 2/6. B. Fidelity Cleaning conducted a walk-through inspection 2/20. C. Public Works repaired many small maintenance projects 2/15. D. Public Works picked up worn-out and broken down furniture 2/6. E. The East Room has been re-arranged and outlets have been installed near the carrels for people who are using wi-fi. The new CD shelving allows the CD’s to be kept in call number order. F. Fidelity buffed the Activity Room floors 2/22. II. COLLECTION A. Staff improved and adjusted the spreadsheets used for book ordering to increase the efficiency of the process. B. Several “catch-up” book orders were placed and received. C. Ramon and Renee are making progress on the clean-up part of the genre project. D. Standing orders for adult and juvenile CD books have been arranged. E. Stacey is busy implementing the new procedure for labels for the fiction collection. F. Adult collectibles order placed. G. Three adult paperback orders were placed. H. Replacement and added copy orders for books were placed. III. PROGRAMS A. Four sessions of preschool storytime were held during the month. B. The Library Board met 2/12 with five members present. C. Marsha read at Valley View Elementary School 2/6 as part of “I Love to Read” month. D. Danielle Daniel, first program as part of the After School Grant, told stories to an appreciative audience 2/11. E. Dana led the book discussion group 2/28 using Angry housewives eating bon-bons 2/28. F. Dana taught a computer class for beginners 2/20. G. The classes from Immaculate Conception School visited the Library at their regularly- scheduled times during the week of 2/19-2/22. H. The Friends met 2/4 with 8 people in attendance. They voted to purchase the following items for the Library: paper back racks, dehumidifier, coffee pot, and dvd player. I. The bulk loan was delivered to the schools 2/7. IV. TECHNOLOGY A. Stacey met with Steve from the local cable company 2/19 to discuss the revival of the Calendar Show and to go over what the Library would like to have on the air. Steve took some background footage and the actual taping will be 2/27. B. The staff laptop’s keyboard was repaired 2/6 by Dell. C. The modulator was replaced on the Library’s cable broadcasting equipment 2/19. D. Procedure set up to enter pertinent e-mails considered correspondence into Laserfiche. E. The circuit that connects COH to ACL went down 2/10. Thanks to Al Rautio from ACL, Qwest had the building back online by 2:30 p.m. 2/11. V. STAFF A. Dana met with Patrick from the Work Force Center to discuss distribution of brochures in multiple languages. B. Alison Marzolf, Aaron Mattson, and Patience Waldemar completed their first six months as Library Pages during the month. C. Marsha attended Kindergarten Round-Up at Valley View, North Park, and Highland Elementary Schools the last week of the month. D. Marsha and Becky met with Mary Bussman from ISD #13 2/4 about the CAPP grant. E. Marsha participated in a planning and goal-setting session 2/26 in conjunction with the CAPP grant. F. Marsha attended a “What’s Cooking” workshop at MELSA 2/27 about Summer Reading Club. G. Marsha and Becky attended a meeting at ISD #13 2/7 concerning the After School grant. VI. FOUNDATION A. The Board did not meet in February. VII. MISC A. A MELSA crossover use survey was conducted 2/3-2/9. B. Major Projects: a. Scoring applications and conducting interviews for new Library Clerk and Library Supervisor positions. b.
