COLLECTION A. We have revised the spreadsheets currently being used to place book orders and will be experimenting with the new options until May 1. I hope that the revisions will eliminate some of the double and triple checking we are currently doing. B. Marsha began work on a children’s book sale cart. Plans are to start selling children’s materials downstairs by the first week in February. C. Weeding of the juvenile reference collection has been completed. We have several JREF items that are unique titles but Marsha has chosen to keep them for another 1-2 years. D. Paperback replacement grids have been checked and a replacement order is nearly complete. E. We are in need of additional materials on the Middle East countries and cultures. Marsha has been in contact with Anoka County Library regarding the potential purchase of some materials. Marsha hopes to coordinate with Anoka County Library selectors to fill the gap. F. An order for award winning titles from 2007 was placed. Pages are in the process of checking all awards lists for lost or discards from Columbia Heights. Marsha will be preparing a replacement order for titles needed in February. III. PROJECTS A. The R.E.A.D. dogs program is scheduled to begin in March. We currently have two R.E.A.D. teams signed up for the program. Marsha will be coordinating with Columbia Heights school district reading specialists regarding student participation and potential testing. B. Collaboration between School District #13 and the Columbia Heights Public Library has brought additional funds for programming. On February 11 at 6:30 p.m. Danielle Daniel, an African-American storyteller will begin a series of four cultural programs funded by the After-School Community Learning Grant. Larry Yazzie-Native American Fancy Dancer, Exposed Brick Theater-A Place to Call Home, and Ketzal Coatlicue-Aztec Dancers will complete the series. All programs will be featured in the upcoming Heights Happenings. C. The programs for the summer have been booked. Contracts are awaiting notification from ACL of the MELSA allotments to Columbia Heights for 2008. D. Marsha is in the process of preparing supply orders for the summer reading program. Final order date for Janway is February 15. IV. STAFF A. Children’s Department Clerk, Kelly Olsonpurged the magazine collection of outdated magazines, prepared performers contracts for both the cultural programs and the upcoming summer performances, completed the required sales tax documents and turned them in to the City. Kelly sent and received three book orders and received magazines weekly. She also met with Judy Soule from ACL to facilitate the annual rollover of accounts within Workflows. B. Library Aide, Cristy Tombarge completed displays, bulletin boards, and promotional materials for Love My Library and Black History Month as well as posters and flyers for winter storytime. She also prepped display materials for the library’s display at City Hall. Cristy prepared promotional materials and a bulletin board for the adult reading program “Hot Reads for Cold Nights.” She also developed and completed the first Library Aide procedure manual C. Pages have been busy double-checking book orders and award winning titles lists. They also started to re-inventory the storytime collection in preparation for storage boxes and separate identification tags.
