The Friends of the Library met on December 3. They prepared a box to collect books for Project Bookshelf. Forty-seven books were delivered to SACA for holiday distribution. b. At home service delivered 64 items to four patrons this month. Also included with the deliveries was a magnet with the library’s phone number designed by library staff. This should make it easier for the patrons to keep track of their receipts and find the phone number to call us. c. Volunteers have put in 12 hours this month on a project to check the location of the genre fiction in the catalog. This project is a huge undertaking, and the volunteer in charge of it has done a remarkable job. II. Collection a. Several books on CD were added to the collection in December. These new items were quickly checked out by commuters and travelers alike. Additions to the music CDs and DVDs will be made in 2008. b. The quarto (oversized) books were examined this month for weeding, repair and replacement. There are some lovely things in this collection, which is underutilized due to its separation from the main collection. A marketing plan is being developed to draw attention to these books. c. The exam preparation materials were also examined this month. Many of these become dated or lost quickly, so replacement copies are often required. An order to update these materials was prepared for entry in the New Year. III. Projects a. Fidelity cleaners has been doing a fine job of cleaning the library. The new cleaner is an excellent communicator and has been delightful to work with. b. Displays in the library include holiday craft and cooking books on the slat board in the lobby, and reference service is being promoted on the bulletin board.
