C. Honeywell returned 12/17 to replace filters.

II. COLLECTION
A. Year-end book, dvd, and cd orders were all processed.
B. Marsha, Dana, and I will be following a “tweaked” version of the proposed ACL weeding
schedule starting in 2008. We are in the process of reviewing COH weeding guidelines.
III. PROGRAMS
A. The Library Board met 12/4 with four members in attendance.
B. The Friends of the Library met 12/3 with eight members present.
C. The Friends collected 44 books through Project Bookshelf. These items were distributed
through the local Southern Anoka County Action (SACA) food shelf.
D. Marsha had a special field trip for the local ECFE groups 12/4.
E. Marsha presented a special holiday storytime 12/11.
F. The bulk loan was delivered to the schools on 12/6.
IV. TECHNOLOGY
A. CybraryN has worked much better after Al’s hard work. I did not have any reports of
problems with the Q this month.
B. The Library’s cable channel has had several problems this month. Comcast came out 12/12
and the repairperson was amazed at the age of the equipment. The channel lost all audio
12/17, but they were able to restore it relatively quickly. On 12/20 the City cable liaison will
visit the Library with representatives from Elert to analyze what equipment needs to be
replaced. The City is going out for bids in 2008 to replace the cable equipment in the City
Council chambers and new equipment for the Library will be included.
C. ACL performed emergency maintenance on their server 12/20.
V. STAFF
A. Stacey received advanced training in Scala 12/27.
B. Each year the City Manager and Finance Director select two departments to make special
presentations at the Truth in Taxation hearing. This year they selected the Police
Department and the Library. I was asked to give a brief historical sketch of library service
in Columbia Heights before discussing current public service requirements and staffing
issues.
C. I was pleased to serve on the Employee of the Year Selection Committee this year. This
award is granted by employees to their peers and recognizes outstanding service.
D. Staff attended the annual City Holiday Luncheon 12/12. Marsha won a full-size poker table
in the prize drawing, so we have a new idea on how to raise extra funds! Many thanks to
part-time Library Supervisor Nancy Soldatow, who volunteered to come in and work the
desk so we could attend the luncheon.
E. Marsha and I attended a meeting at the School District 12/13 on the After-School
Community Learning grant.
F. Jim invited Dana and I to Northtown for a general tour and overview of the reference
collection. We enjoyed treats in honor of St. Lucia Day with the staff and talked about
reference collection development for the future. Thanks to Jim for the time he spent with us.
G. Marsha attended a teen meeting at MELSA 12/18.
VI. FOUNDATION
A. The Foundation sponsored a fundraiser at the Heights Theatre 12/2. The Immaculate
Conception choir sang and led the audience in singing carols before the movie, “Scrooge,”
was shown. The silent auction was very well-received by the attendees and had wonderful
items donated by various patrons, staff, and friends.
VII. MISC
A. Behavior issues after school continue to be a problem. Seven juveniles were trespassed 12/3
for ninety days. On 12/12 one of the trespassed individuals came back into the building and
was arrested for violating the trespass order.
B. Granny’s Closet has placed a collection box in the Library for the month of December.
C. Major projects:
a. Budget
