I. BUILDING MAINTENANCE
A. Orkin was called to the building several times during the month after a mouse was sighted.
Glue traps have been set, but so far he has eluded capture.
B. Beaver Caulking finished all the exterior caulking/stucco repairs 11/13. Hopefully, no more
critters will get into the building!
C. Public Works performed several small maintenance jobs during the month.
D. Olson Plumbing fixed the workroom sink 11/27.
E. Dana conducted a walk-through inspection with Fidelity Cleaners 11/9.
F. The windows were cleaned 11/14.
G. Fidelity buffed the Activity Room floors 11/23.
II. COLLECTION
A. Preparation of year-end book orders is in process.
B. Kelly has been working on checking all the back-orders and cancels at Baker & Taylor so
that staff has an accurate accounting of budgeted money left to be spent.
C Work continues on the Fodor’s order.
III. PROGRAMS
A. The Library Board met 11/6 with six members and one guest in attendance. Foundation
President Tom Sherohman joined the Board at the beginning of the meeting to talk about the
upcoming fundraiser.
B. The Friends of the Library met 11/5 with seven members present.
C. The Friends have started to collect books for Project Bookshelf. These items will be
distributed through the local Southern Anoka County Action (SACA) food shelf.
D. Two sessions of preschool storytime were presented during the month.
E. Ann Zemke presented a special program on her grandmother’s experience on the Orphan
Train 11/8. Ms. Zemke used a commemorative quilt to illustrate her program.
F. The bulk loan was delivered to the schools on 11/8.
G. National Children’s Book Week was celebrated throughout the month of November with
special events.
H. Dana facilitated the third book discussion group 11/29. They discussed the book Tin City.
I. Dana taught her second computer class 11/14.
J. Dana conducted a library tour for ESL students 11/29.
K. Dana went to Parkview Villa 11/2 with books for the residents to check out.
L. Classes from Immaculate Conception School visited the Library during the week of 11/5.
IV. TECHNOLOGY
A. The CH1 Internet workstation was vandalized the evening of 11/8 with white-out and
sunflower seeds.
B. CybraryN has presented some challenges during the month. There appears to be a problem
with the clock that allows machines to be held for an hour rather than five minutes. Patrons
are also being given 120 minutes of time rather than 60. Al Rautio is working on the repair.
C. The City network will undergo regular maintenance 11/29.
D. COH experienced several problems with the Q during the month. Al Rautio is working on
resolving our issues.
V. STAFF
A. Stacey received training in CastNet 11/27.
B. Marsha and I attended a meeting at the School District 11/15 on the After-School
Community Learning grant.
C. Marsha attended a meeting at the School District 11/14 on the AmeriCorps grant.
D. Marsha attended a meeting at the School District 11/5 on the Comprehensive Arts Planning
Program (CAPP).
E. Marsha and I attended a meeting on the NewAnokat 11/7 at ACL.
F. I attended a meeting about paperback labeling at ACL.
VI. FOUNDATION
A. The Foundation Board met 11/20 with five members present. Final plans for the fundraiser
at the Heights Theatre were discussed. An updated list of items for the silent auction was
distributed. A local business made a generous donation to the Capital Campaign as a
“challenge” to other businesses in the area.
VII. MISC
A. Behavior issues after school continue to be a problem. Staff is trying different approaches to
alleviate the situation.
B. A MELSA crossover survey was conducted 11/5-11/10.
C. Major projects:
