I. Programs
a. Friends of the library did not meet in August. Meetings will resume in
September.
b. At home service provided three deliveries this month, for a total of about
45 items.
c. Volunteers have worked a total of 16 hours in August. The remainder of
the non-fiction has been shifted and straightened, and many cleaning
projects have been completed.
II. Collection
a. A large DVD order was placed this month. Forty-six adult and 14 juvenile
titles were added to the collection, including a long-awaited version of
Roots on DVD. One more order will be placed before the end of the year.
b. Twenty-nine music compact discs were ordered in August. Several titles
were selected to fill gaps in our classical collection.
c. Two books on compact disc were purchased, Hide by Lisa Gardner and
Dust by Martha Grimes.
III. Projects
a. Fidelity cleaning services conducted a walk-through of the building on

August 16. Cleaning quality is much improved, although a few areas of
concern were addressed.
b. Displays in the library were a combination of fiction and non-fiction
explorations of Minnesota and covers of all seven Harry Potter books.

c. A grant application was submitted on August 23 to Hamburger Helper
and General Mills for $2,000 toward books on compact disc. The grant
may be viewed at myhometownhelper.com, and individuals are invited to
add a comment to the page. It appears that entries with many public
remarks are considered more seriously by the judges, so please lend your
support and add to the list of comments.
IV. Meetings
a. All staff training day was held at Bunker Hills park on Friday, August

24. Practical training was offered in understanding accented speakers
and the challenges of mentally ill patrons in the library. A session on
reference unveiled a new database, and the day ended with a planning
session for the Anoka County Libraries. It was an excellent change to
network with other librarians from throughout the county, and I appreciate
the opportunity to attend.
