I. BUILDING MAINTENANCE
A. Centerpoint Energy detected a small leak near the Library’s gas meter. The repair was
scheduled, and no evacuation of the building was needed.
B. The departmental copier needed a service call 8/1.
C. The windows were cleaned 8/22.
D. EMC Plumbing is undertaking the repair to the main valve of the sprinkler system.
E. Orkin performed routine maintenance 8/15.
F. Dana conducted a walk-through with Fidelity on 8/16. Our new cleaner is doing a much
better job on the building than our previous one.
G. Fidelity buffed the Activity Room floors 8/24.
II. COLLECTION
A. One paperback and five hardcover book orders were placed during the month.
B. Adds to the adult 000’s were ordered.
C. Adds and replacements for the juvenile and adult collection have been ordered.
D. The old issues of magazines have been discarded. The rest of the collection has been shifted
and the boxes changed out.
III. PROGRAMS
A. Summer Reading Program ended 8/31. The themes for 2007 were “Go Bananas” and “Go
Wild.”
B. The American Girl Tea Party 8/1 featured Kirsten and was well-attended.
C. The Library Board met 8/8 with all members in attendance.
D. Sixteen summer Volunteens were recognized by the Library Board at a special reception in
their honor 8/23.
E. Techno Teens met three times during August. Participants gained knowledge of the
hardware and software sides of computers. Thanks to the University of Minnesota
Computing Machinists Club for conducting the classes.
F. The new teachers in Independent School District #13 toured the Library 8/22 as part of their
introduction to the community. 39 new teachers were in attendance.
IV. TECHNOLOGY
A. Nothing to report in August.
V. STAFF
A. I attended the ACL Public Service meeting 8/2 at the Centennial branch.
B. Marsha and I met with Marlene Moulton-Janssen, Mary Caven, and Judy Soule 8/9 about
the debut of the new Anokat.
C. On 8/14 I accompanied Mary Caven and Janet Kleckner to MPL for a demonstration of
assistive technology.
D. The City is contracting with an independent firm to produce five videos to be used on the
City website. I met with Linda Magee 8/14 to discuss potential scripts and to sit in on a
conference call with the vendor. The filming will occur in October.
E. Marsha and I met with the Pages 8/21 to negotiate Fall schedule. Staff will be up to full
numbers by the time the new schedule starts 9/4.
F. Marsha met with a representative from ISD #13 8/23 about an Arts Board grant.
G. Columbia Heights staff attended All Staff Day at Bunker Activity Center 8/24.
H. Dana and I met with Jill from Anoka County Senior Network on 8/28.
I. Stacey Hendren has been hired as the new Clerk-Typist II (Adult). She will begin her
regular schedule 9/4.
VI. FOUNDATION
A. The Foundation Board met 8/15 with all members present. Discussion centered on the
upcoming fundraiser at the Heights Theatre and the capital campaign. Tom distributed
business cards to the members to use when they distribute the new brochures.
VII. MISC
A. Three new Pages were trained during the month. Alison Marzolf, Aaron Mattson, and
Patience Waldemar will begin working on the regular schedule in September. Ramon
Gomez completed his first class of trainees.
