Rebecca Loader, Library Director SUBJECT: June operational report DATE: June 30, 2007 I. BUILDING MAINTENANCE A. Schindler performed the annual tests on the elevator 6/14. B. Linda, Dana, and I met with representatives from Fidelity Cleaners regarding the cleaning in the building. C. Heights Electric replaced two ballasts in the Children’s Department 6/13; D. Fidelity buffed the Activity Room floors 5/15. E. Orkin performed routine maintenance 6/15. F. Honeywell shut down the boiler for summer maintenance 6/18. II. COLLECTION A. One paperback and six hardcover book orders were placed during the month. B. Dana completed the reference project and has started working on the adult 000’s. C. Adds and replacements for the juvenile and adult collection have been ordered. III. PROGRAMS A. Summer Reading Program started 6/1. The themes for 2007 are “Go Bananas” and “Go Wild.” B. The last Booksale was held 6/7 in the Activity Room. The Library will be utilizing a booksale cart from now on. C. The Friends met 6/5 with 9 members in attendance. D. The Library Board met 6/5 with all members in attendance. E. The summer Volunteens started working the week of 6/11. F. The Neighborhood Bridges program started 6/18. Funded by a grant from the Minnesota Regional Arts Council and the Library Foundation, this is the third year for the program put on by the Children’s Theatre. G. Two sessions of preschool storytime presented by Wilbur Hill were held during the month. Mr. Hill is a teacher and an enthusiastic storyteller. H. Three sessions of preschool storytime were presented by staff in June. I. Two sessions of Spanish storytime were held in June. J. Three Wacky Wednesdays were held: Como Zoo (6/13), Circus Manduhai (6/20), and Touch of Magic (6/27). K. Puppet shows were presented 6/21 and 6/28 by the Recreation puppeteers. IV. TECHNOLOGY A. The departmental laser printer (old Squeaky Squeakerson) was replaced in June. V. STAFF A. I attended a meeting on the City’s Emergency Plan 6/11. B. Dana went to Brown Institute 6/12 to meet with the class that is designing a potential new logo and library card for Columbia Heights. She selected one and will receive all the designs for consideration soon. C. Graduating Pages Ashlyn Altmeyer, Sarah Doepel, and Dan Kleinfehn were honored at a breakfast 6/14. th D. Kelly celebrated her 15 anniversary with the Library during the month. E. I met with Marlene Moulton-Janssen 6/14 for our regular meeting. F. Jeanine Schmidt will retire 6/29. Staff has been doing a lot of cross-training during the month. VI. FOUNDATION A. The Foundation Board met 6/13 with six members present. Discussion centered around the Parade entry and the brochure for the annual donation drive. The Board will pay to have the piano tuned and repaired for use in the Neighborhood Bridges summer program at the Library. VII. MISC A. Saturday hours changed to 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. 6/9. These hours will remain in effect till 9/8. B. The 2008 proposed budget was turned in to Finance 6/8. C. Major projects: a. Preparation of proposed 2008 budget b. Preparation for summer programs c.
