PROGRAMS A. SRC totals: Go Wild (teens) 156; Go Bananas (elementary) 479. B. Anime Club has been very popular with 24 participants each week. C. Wacky Wednesday performers brought 529 people into the building in June and July. D. Storytime (Marsha’s) attendance averaged 50 plus for each of 6 sessions. E. Volunteer and Espanol Storytimes had limited turnouts. F. Puppet Shows were held on 7/5, 7/12, and 7/26. The final puppet show of the season was cancelled due to low attendance. COLLECTION A. Staff completed weeding of the J Quarto sections. The section was weeded for damaged materials and low circulation. B. Several book orders were placed and received. C. The first easy CD & book combination order was prepared. D. Circulation is up 1200 over last year in June and while July totals are not in yet many days in July sowed very high circulation. We saw 2,264 more people in the building in June 2007 that we had last year in June. The extra business in the building is noticeable and staff has been very busy. III. PROJECTS A. Copy was prepared and submitted for the fall issue of Heights Happenings. B. Children’s Department staff received additional training on linking of materials, preparation of Library Board documents, and bills. Additional tasks were assigned due to the retirement of long time staffer, Jeanine Schmidt. C. Fall program scheduling is underway. We have booked Stevie Ray’s Improv for October 20 as a part of LOL at the Library – the National Teen Read Week promotion. IV. MEETINGS A. Library Foundation President Tom Sherohman and I participated in the first ever Children’s Theater Neighborhood Bridges conference. We presented an hour-long program on Neighborhood Bridges at Columbia Heights. B. The director and I met with ACL Director Marlene Moulton Jansen regarding the next Anokat campaign. V. STAFF A. Children’s Department clerk, Kelly Olson received training on attaching materials and preparing board packets. She accepted these additional tasks following Jeanine Schmidt’s retirement. In addition, Kelly sent and received five large book orders, received magazines, processed invoices, prepared board packets and aided in the preparations for the American Girl program B. Library program aid Cristy Tombarge compiled statistics on summer programs, set up three new displays, prepared bulletin boards for both floors, aided in the preparation of Heights Happenings, checked numerous book and CD orders, prepared a new dinosaur booklist (Dig These) and stepped in at the circulation desk allowing Kelly time off desk for additional tasks. C. Pages checked selection tools and donated materials. Aided in the weeding of the J quartos, prepared flyers and booklists for the fall, shelved and staffed a busy circulation desk in the evenings. It has been very beneficial to have adult staff in the department evenings and weekends. Respectfully Submitted 7/30/2007
