Rebecca Loader, Library Director SUBJECT: April operational report DATE: April 30, 2007 I. BUILDING MAINTENANCE A. Honeywell performed regular maintenance on the boiler and HVAC 4/2. B. The windows were washed 4/9. C. Orkin performed the quarterly inspection for vermin 4/18. None were found! D. Fidelity buffed the Activity Room floor 4/20. II. COLLECTION A. April was catch-up month for book orders, as many were placed during cross-training. B. The Pages continue to work on mending the Adult Fiction. III. PROGRAMS A. The Friends met 4/2 at the Dragon House Café with 12 members present. B. Three sessions of pre-school storytime were held during the month. C. The Library Board met 4/3 with 6 members in attendance. D. Marsha provided a special program for a large group from the local Family Literacy Center 4/12. Participants were enthusiastic and appreciative. E. National Library Week was celebrated 4/16-4/21 with the theme, “Come Together @ Your Library.” Contests were held on both floors. F. Students from ICS visited the Library during their regularly-scheduled times 4/16-4/21. G. 40 people attended the book reading and signing 4/19 that featured local author Vincent Wyckoff. His book, Beware of cat, chronicles his experiences as a mail carrier in south Minneapolis. H. Marsha put on special programs for two fieldtrips from Head Start on 4/19. IV. TECHNOLOGY A. The departmental laser printer is on its last legs. The IS Department is looking for a suitable replacement. V. STAFF A. Gladys Kim joined the staff as a Library Supervisor 4/2. Gladys comes to the staff with a wide background of public service and reference experience in academic and public libraries. B. The new Page schedule started 4/2. C. Ramon continued his training schedule as the new Library Clerk. D. I met with Marlene Moulton-Janssen, Director of ACL, about several issues 4/5. We decided to meet on a regular basis to keep current on various projects. E. Ramon was introduced to the City Council at the meeting of 4/9 as a new employee. F. Judy trained Jeanine on the new Collections procedure 4/16. G. Kelly trained Jeanine on Acquisitions during the month. Staff is being cross-trained on several tasks to provide coverage. VI. FOUNDATION A. The Foundation was notified that they received their third consecutive Minnesota Regional Arts Council grant. Monies from the grant will be used to fund the summer Neighborhood Bridges program. Marsha has assisted the Foundation with many aspects of the grant and the program. B. The Foundation Board met 4/11 with 5 members present. The Library Board invited the Foundation Board to join them on their entry in the Jamboree Parade. Sharon will be completing the paperwork needed by the IRS about the Foundation. VII. MISC A.
