A. Three sessions of Spring Storytime were held. Summer Storytime is scheduled to begin June 12 and will be held
outside in the courtyard or on the lawn.
B. District 13 Family Literacy visited the library on April 12. They received a special storytime, tour of the children's
department, and materials promoting library services and programs translated into Spanish. The group was very
appreciative.
C. Columbia Heights Headstart visited the library on April 14. They received a special storytime and tour. Many
members of this group have visited the library before and were library cardholders.
D. National Library Week was celebrated with a drawing. Children were asked to guess the number of puzzle pieces in a
jar as a part of Come Together @ your Library.
E. Students from ICS visited the library during their regularly scheduled times 4/16-4/21.
F. Bulk loan to schools was delivered on April 12
II. COLLECTION
A. Staff continues to attempt to "catch-up" on book orders. The new process is time-consuming and detailed. Children's
Department Clerk, Kelly Olson is spending 25% t 30% of her time each week on books orders and magazine acquisitions.
This is a conservative estimate but our best efforts have had no effect on shortening the time involved.
B. The new YA non-fiction collection has begun to arrive and staff has begun weeding YA fiction to make room for the
new collection. We are in desperate need of space for YA materials. The new collection will grow fast and will be used,
but the existing space is limited.
III. PROJECTS
A. Neighborhood Bridges is well underway. Representatives form Children's Theatre Company met representatives from
Central Middle School to prepare a student application process. Teachers will have a meeting and information will be
passed to them and subsequently from them to the parents of students they feel could benefit from the program. CTC rep
Nicole Gurgul and I will attend the CMS open house on May 3 to promote the program.
B. Staff has been busy with preparations for Summer Programs. I am pleased to announce plans have been finalized for
additional programming for teens this summer.
C. Techno Terrific workshop will be held in August (a schedule change from last month's report) in collaboration with
the University of Minnesota Association of Computing Machinists. The University students will work one-on-one with
teens (ages 13-16) on building computers. Parts are being donated by businesses across the metro.
D. Anime Club will meet on Tuesdays in July under the direction of Keiko Miyamoto. Keiko will be going to Japan
shortly and intends to bring back the latest in Anime for group activity and discussion.
E. Not yet final, but in the works, are plans for teen crafting sessions. Staff is currently on the lookout for adults with
skills in quilting, knitting, crochet, appliqué and jewelry making (beading) to a series of workshops open to ages 12-16.
F. Our American Girl program is scheduled for August 2 from 2:00-4:00 p.m.
G. Wacky Wednesday schedule performances are set for 2007.

V. STAFF
A. Children's department staff has been preparing for summer programs and creating book orders, receiving books, and
processing books. Pages began the YA weeding project. Library Aide, Cristy Tombarge has been busy with displays and
bulletin boards, she has also been heavily involved in creating posters, flyers and signage. Children's Department Clerk,
Kelly Olson conducted two sessions of crossing training on acquisitions and workflows, is now checking card
