I. PROGRAMS

A. New publicity materials were forwarded to Anoka County Library regarding volunteer
recruitment and spring storytime registration. Columbia Heights now has a seasonal storytime
brochure available on the WEB page and PAC terminals.
B. Planning for summer programming continues. Staff is making a concerted effort to have
daily programming in place geared especially for teens.
C. Contracts for most summer performers have been received and purchase requisitions are in
process.
II. COLLECTION
A.After making changes in the book ordering process, we are finally making progress.
Juvenile book selection is up to date for Kirkus and we are working on School Library Journal,
VOYA, and Booklist. It has been a challenge re-training staff but we are getting there.
III. PROJECTS
.
AStaff is currently working on the following projects/ programs:
1. Go Bananas at Your Library -- the theme for the 2007 Summer Reading Program for
preschool and elementary children. Children will earn "Banana Bucks" to trade in later
for token prizes and the Banana Hut where "everything is bananas".
2. Go Wild At Your Library -- the theme for the 2007 Teen Reading Program.
Incentives for this program are undetermined at this time except for the fact that every
registrant will receive a compass carabineer at the time of registration.

3. Techno Terrific-- a technology-oriented workshop for 6-8th graders on Tuesday
afternoons beginning June 12.
4. Anime Club -- Anime related activities for 6th-8th graders on Tuesday afternoons
beginning July 10.
5. Puppet shows each Thursday morning at 11:30 a.m. beginning June 21.
6. Summer storytime.
B. Reviews of MRAC grant applications were held March 17 at the MRAC offices. The
Columbia Heights Foundation grant application received high marks from the seven-member
panel. The Foundation was subsequently notified that MRAC had awarded them a $3,000.00
grant. Neighborhood Bridges will again be provided at the library in summer 2007.
IV. MEETINGS
A.A meeting of the Anoka County Library Youth Services Committee was held this month.
The committee made plans for teen programming for summer 2007 and prepared text for
program flyers and reading records.
B. Marsha met with Liz Bray (Columbia Heights Recreation) to discuss potential collaboration
between the Library and Recreation related to the City's summer program schedule. Liz and
Marsha will be working together to make a wide variety of programs available for youth this
summer.
V. STAFF
A. Dana Weigman conducted a storytime in my absence. My thanks to Dana!
B. Cristy Tombarge created two bulletin boards for National Library Week and two new book
displays.
C. Kelly Olson aided the Director in the completion of the 2006 annual report, sent and received
numerous book and paperback orders and received magazines.
D. All staff members have been busy stepping up while we are in the process of hiring for
vacant positions.
