Rebecca Loader, Library Director SUBJECT: March operational report DATE: March 30, 2007 I. BUILDING MAINTENANCE A. The windows were cleaned 3/8. B. Public Works crews put together the new office chairs the Friends purchased on 3/9. C. Fidelity buffed the Activity Room floors 3/16. D. Honeywell performed routine maintenance on the HVAC 3/20. E. The departmental copier required a maintenance call 3/27. II. COLLECTION A. Staff worked to improve the new book ordering system. Several hardcover orders were placed and received. B. Pages are working on the adult fiction-mending project. III. PROGRAMS A. Adult Winter Reading Club (“Hot Reads for Cold Nights”) ended 3/3 with 97 participants reading 164 books. B. Representative Carolyn Laine held a Town Meeting in the Activity Room 3/3. C. The classes from Immaculate Conception School visited the Library 3/5-3/9 during their scheduled times. D. The Friends met 3/5 with 9 members present. The Friends discussed the Book Sale and other projects. E. The kick off event for the Arthur reading program was a huge success 3/5 with 95 kids and 54 adults in attendance. The reading records are due back the week of 3/26. Dana obtained a grant from WGBH to fund the program. F. The Library Board met 3/6 with seven members in attendance. G. The bulk loan was delivered to the schools 3/22. H. Marsha met with Liz Bray, Recreation Department Program Coordinator, to discuss potential coordination of summer programs. I. The first session of Spring Storytime was held 3/27. J. Marsha attended Kindergarten Round-Up at Valley View 3/27 to talk about library services and to sign up new readers for cards. K. Dana put a library-related display in the display case at City Hall 3/30. IV. TECHNOLOGY A. Al worked on updating Windows on the pc’s which are part of the County WAN 3/14 and 3/23. V. STAFF A. Interviews for the vacant Library Supervisor position were held the week of 3/5. Gladys Kim has accepted the position and will begin training 4/2. B. Dana Weigman celebrated six-months as the Adult Services Librarian in March. C. Marsha attended the Teen Read meeting at ACL 3/7. D. Becky attended the LOC meeting at ACL 3/15. E. On 3/20 Becky attended emergency management training that dealt with pandemics. F. Ramon Gomez joined the staff as the Library Clerk 3/26. G. Four of the Pages had performance reviews during March. VI. FOUNDATION A. The Foundation Board met 3/14 with all members present. Kit Burgoyne was welcomed as a new member. Kit worked for the School District for over 30 years and has many contacts in the community. Both of her children also worked for the Library when they were in high school. B. Marsha represented the Foundation Board at the Minnesota Regional Art Council (MRAC) grant hearing 3/17. The Foundation has received this grant twice. VII. MISC A. The City closed all buildings at 3:00 p.m. on 3/1 due to the snowstorm. All buildings opened for business at 10:00 a.m. on 3/2. B. Becky and Marlene met 3/15 to discuss various topics, including Collections, Floating Collections, and Reports. C. Major Projects a. 2008-2011 Technology Plan b.
