Rebecca Loader, Library Director SUBJECT: January operational report DATE: January 31, 2007 I. BUILDING MAINTENANCE A. Public Works has been doing indoor projects since there has been no snow to plow. They cleaned out the boiler room, painted the upstairs restrooms, and repaired and painted a water-damaged wall in the lower level. B. Honeywell replaced the time clock on the HVAC 1/9. C. The windows were cleaned 1/10. D. Fidelity buffed the Activity Room floors 1/12. II. COLLECTION A. Dana will assume selection responsibilities for adult cd’s (music and spoken word) and adult and juvenile dvd’s (non-fiction and features) for 2007. B. Staff will be using a new process to order books in 2007. The first order has been placed and received by Kelly. All of us are learning as we go, and we will be making changes as needed. C. Progress is being made on the Locations project. All the adult hardcover mysteries, science fiction, and westerns have been moved out of the general fiction and filed at the end of the alphabet. A volunteer has been working on the project and also checked the labels on the items before they were moved. The remaining step is to update the bibliographic records in the database. III. PROGRAMS A. The Library Board met 1/2 with 5 members in attendance. B. Staff has spent a lot of time this month preparing the print materials for the “One Book/ One County” project that will be part of the Anoka County Sesquicentennial celebration. I think the materials turned out great and will help entice patrons to participate in the program. C. ICS classes visited the Library at their regularly scheduled times during the week of 1/8. D. All available tax forms were put out for the public 1/16. Instruction books for the property tax rebate have not been received. E. The bulk loan was delivered to the schools 1/18. F. “Hot Reads for Cold Nights” Adult Reading Club started 1/22. G. The winter session of storytime began 1/30. IV. TECHNOLOGY A. I attended a presentation 1/22 by a representative from Unplugged Cities, which is a company providing wi-fi access for several municipalities in Minnesota. V. STAFF A. Kelly trained Jeanine in Serials 1/17 and 1/24 as part of a staff cross-training project. B. I attended the LOC meeting at ACL 1/18. C. Teri Olberding celebrated her two-year anniversary as a Page. D. Dana met with Lori at MIS on 1/24 to talk about cd orders and to tour the building. E. I attended a meeting 1/25 to discuss a possible card-key security system to be installed in all City buildings. F. Joanne submitted her resignation effective 1/25. Staff wishes her well in her future endeavors. G. The vacant Library Supervisor position will be re-advertised in February. VI. FOUNDATION A. The Foundation Board and the Library Board met jointly 1/8 to discuss strategies for community outreach and public relations for the Library. Members will attend a City Council work session in February to share their ideas with the Council. B. The Foundation Board met 1/17 with four members present. Discussion centered on the donation brochure and the joint meeting with the Library Board. VII. MISC A. MELSA has received a LSTA grant called “Su Biblioteca,” which is to be used for collection materials and programs for Spanish-speaking patrons. COH has $1200 to expend for materials. B. All 2006 bills have been received and processed for payment out of the correct fiscal year. th C. Dana received an “Arthur’s 10 Anniversary Literacy Initiative” grant from WGBH. Programs associated with the grant will occur in March.
