I. Programs
rd
A. Friends of the Library
met on October 3 at the Dragon House
restaurant. Rita Norberg was elected treasurer, and the group decided to
again collect books for Project Bookshelf in November and December. A
new brochure is being designed for the Friends group; a few
modifications are being made before the final product can be printed.
B. At home service
continues to be a popular service of the library. A new
brochure is also being designed to promote this program, which will be
available to the public in November. One new patron was added to this
service this month, bringing the total number to nine.
C. Volunteers
logged a total of 19 hours this month, mostly delivering
materials to at home patrons and working on labeling and shifting
reference materials.
II. Collection
A.
No additions to the CD collection were made this month as the budget for
the year has been expended.
III. Projects
A.
Furniture bids have been submitted by three companies for new desks
and work areas upstairs. Becky and I met with representatives from the
two companies with the best bids, and are awaiting final changes before
making a decision. Both companies could deliver within three weeks of
order placement.
B.
English as a second language students from Columbia Heights toured
th
the library on October 5. Thirteen adults were introduced to library
services and collections. Several obtained cards and have been regular
library patrons since the tour.
C.
Fidelity Building Services conducted a walk through of the library on
th
October 4. Some small issues were addressed, but in general the
cleaning has been adequate.
D.
Library displays for the month include “It was a dark and stormy night,”
featuring mystery novels. The lobby display highlights a collection of
non-fiction titles encouraging patrons to “Try something new.” New
fiction and non-fiction are also on display. October is Polish American
Heritage Month and so the display case in the East room features items
from Poland, compliments of the Sister City organization.

E.
Make a difference day was celebrated on October 27. Many staff
members contributed various items to the SACA group.
