I. Programs

Friends of the Library
A. The met on November 6, 2006 in the library boardroom.
Because a new treasurer has been elected, some questions into the tax status of the
Friends group were raised. After some investigating, I found that their Minnesota Tax ID
number is inactive, but that is desirable because of newer laws that have been passed.
According to the Minnesota department of revenue, non-profit groups can sell anything
portable without tax, and with no ceiling on the amount. The friends also discussed
printing and design of a new brochure, and they decorated a box to collect books for

At home service
B. unveiled a new brochure this month to promote and register new
patrons. Several brochures have been given out, and perhaps with the onset of cold
weather new patrons will require this service.
Volunteers
C. this month have logged 13 hours. The pots outside were decorated for the
holidays and new labels for reference, paperbacks, and current magazines were created.

Columbia Heights Senior Center
D. I taught a class at the on November 15. The seniors
were able to practice using the mouse and were introduced to the library catalog. Positive
feedback was received, and many of the seniors intend to make more use of the library
catalog as a result of the class.

Valley View Elementary
E. hosted an English as a second language fair on the 14. I was
there with information on the library and was able to register a few people for library
cards at the event.
II. Collection
books on compact disc
A. Four new were added this month.
Weeding
B. of the science fiction and western genres began this month in anticipation for
the collections being separated by genre.
III. Projects
furniture
A. The new for the lobby was ordered from Alternative Business Furniture this
month and will be installed on December 7, 2006.
Displays
B. in the library this month include holiday craft books, fiction titles with a
cooking theme, and the bulletin board features one of our subscription databases,
Ancestry Home Edition, which assists patrons in searching for genealogical information.
IV. Meetings

Library Board meeting
A. I attended the on Wednesday, November 1. It was wonderful
to be welcomed by the library board.

B. On November 13 I attended a meeting with Mary Caven and Janet Kleckner regarding
Museum Adventure Pass
the . We discussed the possibility of some programming in the
libraries in February.
