PROGRAMS MONTHLY TOTAL 156 7 September Program Title Date Children Adults 2nd Grade 8/18/2006 32 2 1st Grade 8/18/2006 32 2 4th Grade 8/20/2006 36 1 5th Grade 8/20/2006 32 1 Kindergarten 8/21/2006 24 1 A. ICS class visits resumed this month. Plans are underway for fall storytime sessions. B. The first bulk loan to schools was delivered on September 7. Currently we have nine classrooms participating in this service. C. Macy's Museum Adventure Pass program began September 7. Patrons were lined up waiting for this outstanding program. Comments have been very favorable. II. FUTURE PROGRAMS A. An information and demonstration session “Yoga” is scheduled for October 16. As a tie in to the Teen Read Week theme "Get Active at Your Library" Lifetime Fitness instructor Lisa Ruff will present the benefits of yoga for all ages. Her children will demonstrate and the group will be instructed on the proper technique for deep breathing. The one-hour program begins at 7:00 p.m. and is open to all ages. B. Negotiations are underway with a Manga artist to provide 1-2 programs in October. Keiko Miyamoto is from Japan and has an art and teaching degree. Dates have not yet been set for this program as Keiko just recently returned form Japan. C. Our Teen Read Week Celebration will also include some contests and giveaways. III. COLLECTION A. Book ordering has resumed at its regular pace following last month's mix up. Several large orders were placed through B&T and are currently being added and processed. B. An order of books on CD was placed through Listening Library. C. Fall donations of materials from CLR and Compass Point arrived via John Brosnahan. Staff has completed the first check against the catalog. I will be in contact with ACL selectors about which titles they plan to add. IV. PROJECTS A. The final report for the 2006 MRAC grant was submitted to MRAC offices. Neighborhood Bridges was a huge success this summer. We are looking forward to another application for grant funds for 2007. V. MEETINGS A. I attended the Summer Reading Program follow-up meeting at Northtown on September 19. B. A promotional meeting for 4-H participation was held in the activity room on September 21. VI. STAFF A. Children's Department staff has been busy cleaning up following the ordering mix up with B&T. This was time consuming and has slowed down our ordering process but we hope to recoup by the end of October. B. Pages created order cards, shelved large numbers of returns (end of summer), and switched out the easy non-fiction shelf labels.
