To: M. Rebecca Loader, Library Director
From: Marsha Tubbs, Children’s Librarian
Subject: July 2006 Operational Report
Date: July 31, 2006
I. PROGRAMS
A. Summer storytime sessions concluded on 7/25. Average attendance for summer 2006 was 52.
B. Summer performances concluded on 7/26. Average attendance for these programs was 113.
C. The Neighborhood Bridges program also concluded this month. We had 17 participants. The group provided a
Shareformance at the library for 94 friends and family on 7/20.
II. COLLECTION
A. Inventory of the J600’s, J920- J922 and the YA fiction was competed by the end of July. We averaged 6 books
from each of the non-fiction sections that could not be accounted for and 30 books from the YA fiction that were
either charged assumed lost or could not be located.
B. Volunteers cleaned covers on the easy books. This task is completed through the letter R.
C. I have begun collection development for the J600’s and am pleased to report that we have very little by way of lost
items or holes to fill.
D. Several book orders were sent this month. Heaviest adds were in non-fiction, J Fiction and YA fiction.
E. A small book order was placed for board books but I am in the process of preparing another order. I had hoped to
add 2006 titles to this section but am unable to locate hits in the catalog so have begun processing a listing of older
titles. I don’t feel the boardbook section is the area to spend cataloging fees for unique titles.
III. CYBRARYN/INTERNET
A. We continue to have difficulties with the queue. The majority of the problems seem to be related to the clock
(timer). CH07 appears to lose the clock completely on occasion and CH06 seems to short people in their time
allotment. This is difficult to determine, however, as we have discovered that people when asked if they have used
time earlier in the day are not always truthful in their response. I have removed the guest passes from the
circulation desk and have instructed evening personnel to send people upstairs to receive a guest pass. This way the
evening supervisor can keep better tabs on how many passes are handed out after five. Internet activity has been
heavy all summer and the queue is utilized almost daily.
IV. MEETINGS
A. I received NIMS (100 and 700) training on July 27 from Charlie Thompson. The class was sobering and thought
provoking. Many things have changed since 9-11.
B. At the Library Director’s request, I participated in the Activity Center Community Open House on July 26. Staff
prepared handout materials for the event and along with members of the Foundation and the Library Board
distributed these materials to residents in attendance that evening.
V. PROJECTS
A. Staff is working on preparations for the American Girl program. This year’s American Girl theme is Josefina.
Participants will have the opportunity to create a beaded bracelet, weave a belt, and create a Mexican style paper
doll.
B. Preparations are underway for the Volunteer Recognition reception to be held on August 23. We are grateful to the
efforts of these young teens, without them, the Library’s summer program schedule would look much different.
We had 22 volunteer applications this summer.
VI. STAFF
A. Library Aide Cristy Tombarge placed several book orders, updated the book order files, prepared materials for
American Girl, updated SRF stats weekly, prepared a Neighborhood Bridges Power Point Presentation created
scrapbooks for Neighborhood Bridges participants, staffed the circulation desk to cover vacations and prepared
posters for Wacky Wednesday performances.
B. Library Clerk, Kelly Olson received several book orders, prepared materials for distribution at the Activity Center
open house, received magazines, provided monthly statistical updates to the Director.
C. Pages working in the department completed the inventory, processed incoming materials, prepared order cards,
updated summer reading fun lists for participants, and aided in the preparations for weekly programs.
