HomeMy WebLinkAboutOperational Report from Marsha To: M. Rebecca Loader, Library Director From: Marsha Tubbs, Children’s Librarian Subject: June 2006 Operational Report Date: June 26, 2006 I. PROGRAMS A. Neighborhood Bridges (CTC) began June 13. We have 17 teens registered in this program. CTC (Children’s Theatre Company) is pleased with the turn out and participants report that they “love” the program. B. ESL families received a special storytime on June 21 as part of an introduction to the library and summer reading at home. C. Drop in Storytime is proving to be something of a challenge. The ages of participants vary from adults and teenagers to preschool and infants. I am doing more activities and varying the reading materials in an effort to keep the groups attention. I am also doing the summer storytime in the main reading room, which further complicates things. However, response has been good with average attendance at around 30-35. D. Summer performances began June 14 with the Splatter Sisters. This group rocked the house with their energy, music, and enthusiasm. We had 194 people attend the kick-off performance! E. Summer reading programs are well underway. Registration is currently at 478 total; 122 teens th and 356 prek-5 grade. II. COLLECTION A. A large hardcover order for Juvenile and YA titles was placed this month. B. Books on CD and music CD’s were received and added to the collection. C. Weeding of the J non-fiction collection was completed. D. Inventory of the J600’s collection has begun. E. All paperback shelving has been re-labeled. III. PROJECTS A. Staff visited all elementary school classrooms in District 13 and Immaculate Conception School to promote summer reading. Information flyers were distributed to all students (1400 total). We were asked at all schools if we had the materials in Spanish. A teacher from Valley View did a translation for us and we subsequently printed a Spanish edition, which was then made available in the school offices. B. Volunteers have been a Godsend and a challenge. We have twenty-two volunteers on the roster this season. They are all very young, very enthusiastic, and a joy to have around even though the chaos gets to be a bit much sometime. They will begin work on fall bulletin boards in July, but have been kept busy with reading program registration for most of the month of June. C. We continue to check the Fountas and Pinnell listing and are creating booklists based on various reading levels. D. Staff is preparing the fall program calendar and will be discussing promotions for September through November with the Director the first week in July. IV. STAFF A. Library pages have been busy registering reading program participants, setting up for programs, checking, and selection tools, waiting on children and shelving materials. With their help, staff completed the weeding of the J non-fiction and mending of materials within that section. B. Library Aide, Cristy Tombarge, prepared and printed the Sampler newsletter for the month of June, printed all materials distributed to the schools, established a display of playtime activities, prepared book orders, and completed the weeding of the young adult fiction collection. C. Library Clerk, Kelly Olson received books, prepared month-end statistics, assisted the Librarian in the supervision of volunteers, prepared Fountas and Pinnell booklists, and prepared promotional materials for June performances.
