Rebecca Loader, Library Director SUBJECT: June operational report DATE: June 30, 2006 I. BUILDING MAINTENANCE A. The windows were cleaned 6/1. B. Schindler performed routine maintenance on the elevator 6/5. C. Fidelity buffed the Activity Room floors 6/16. D. The sprinkler system underwent its annual test 6/14. E. Honeywell performed routine HVAC maintenance 6/14. Max discovered the central ac unit was not working and repaired it. F. Orkin performed routine maintenance 6/21. G. Public Works replaced the vandalized tree in the backyard 6/20. H. The elevator doors would not open correctly 6/20; Schindler replaced sensors in the doors 6/21. I. Honeywell performed preventive maintenance 6/22. II. COLLECTION A. With the help of Page Dan Kleinfehn, an Anime DVD order was prepared and ordered. B. Joanne thoroughly weeded the Romance paperbacks and “spiffed” them up in preparation for the summer beach reading season. C. Three large book orders were placed. D. Adult DVD and CD orders were also placed. III. PROGRAMS A. Summer reading program 2006, “Catch the Beat @ Your Library,” started 6/1. B. Marsha and Kelly visited Valley View Elementary 6/1 to promote the summer reading program. C. Marsha and Kelly visited Highland Elementary 6/6 to promote the summer reading program. D. The Friends met 6/6 after sorting books for the booksale with 15 members present. E. The Library Board met 6/6 with all members present. F. The Friends conducted the annual booksale 6/8. G. The Neighborhood Bridges program, “Tell Me More,” started 6/13 and will meet three times a week for five weeks. Their final presentation will take place 7/20. H. Three Wacky Wednesday programs were held in June: Splatter Sisters (6/14), Norm Barnhardt (6/21), and Bill the Juggler (6/28). I. Three sessions of drop-in storytime were held in June (6/13, 6/20, 6/27). J. Marsha presented a special storytime 6/21. K. The Library Board, staff, and volunteers participated in the Jamboree Parade 6/23. L. An ESL tour was conducted 6/20. IV. TECHNOLOGY A. The wireless system was down 6/7 and 6/8. It was restored 6/8. B. CybraryN continues to improve. Problems with the “Q” appear to be solved. C. The Library purchased a wi-fi digital hotspotter, called a canary, and will use it to test the wireless network. V. STAFF A. Summer schedule for the part-time employees began 6/12. B. Becky attended the Minnesota Digital Library annual meeting at the Minnesota History Center 6/12. C. The graduating Pages (Ramon Gomez, Chaltu Hassan, John Kleinfehn, and Nick Olberding) were honored at a breakfast 6/14. D. Mary Kloss retired 6/30 after 28 years of service. E. Jeanine participated in a cable shoot 6/28. VI. FOUNDATION A. The Foundation Board met 6/7 with four members present. Discussion centered on the search for a replacement boardmember and the fundraiser at the Heights Theatre in November. The Board will meet over the summer months due to these two projects. VII. MISC A. Delivery changed to Monday-Wednesday-Friday for the summer beginning the week of 6/5. B. Saturday hours changed to 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. 6/10.
