HomeMy WebLinkAboutJuly 11, 2006 COLUMBIA HEIGHTS PUBLIC LIBRARY BOARD OF TRUSTEES MINUTES July 11, 2006 The meeting was called to order by Chair, Barbara Miller. Those members present were Barbara Miller, Bruce Kelzenberg, Patricia Sowada, Lynette Thomson, Catherine Vesley, and Becky Loader. Nancy Hoium absent. It was moved, seconded, and passed to approve the minutes of the June 6, 2006, Board meeting as mailed. Bill list dated 7/10/06, was reviewed. It was moved, seconded and passed that they be paid. The accounting was reviewed. Old Business: 1. A bid for two new benches for the back courtyard was approved. A bike rack, to be anchored along the wall of the library, is in process. Barbara Miller made bars and delivered them to Public Works as a thank you for their part in improving the landscaping surrounding the library. 2. Sculpture project was tabled. 3. A one-year subscription to Bookpage has been ordered. It is very popular with the patrons. 4. A report on the Minnesota Digital conference was presented. Becky reported that it was a very productive meeting with emphasis on dating, scanning, collection evaluation, and release forms. 5. The one-page 2005 annual report was distributed to the Board. The Board liked the format and the photos and gave their compliments to the staff. New Business: 1. The proposed 2007 budget was reviewed. The Board recommends that $1,000.00 be added to line item 8110: Vandalism. It was approved to send the budget to the next level. The men's room will be redone in dark colors, green/brown/black. The Board approved installing a new stall. 2. Letter to the editor from the 6/14/06 edition of the Northeaster was reviewed. 3. System reports from January through April with the new format were reviewed. 4. Compliments to the staff on the lovely reception in honor of Mary's retirement. Mary has sent a thank you to the Board, which was circulated. 1 5. The Jamboree parade was discussed. The Board felt that it was a successful endeavor. 6. There was discussion about a concept plan for a project on Central Avenue near the Heights Theatre that might include a new library. Marsha and Becky are working on a handout about the possible project. 7. On July 26 there will be an open house from 7:00-9:00 p.m. at Murzyn Hall about a proposed community center. Becky and Marsha are preparing a handout that would include statistics to distribute. The Board was urged to attend and all wear their "library" shirts. 8. There are 14 participants in the Neighborhood Bridges program. The group is doing well and having a wonderful time. 9. Bruce gave a report on the thoughts the Council has about proposed projects. 10. Becky reported that the vertical file closeout is proving to be a goldmine of historical materials.
