I. PROGRAMS
A. Final bulk loan pick up took place on May 18. All bins in materials were delivered back to the library on
that date.
B. Immaculate Conception School classes visited the library the week of May 22-26.
C. Columbia Heights preschool students received a special storytime and tour of the Children’s Department
on May 3. Two field trips were made on that date.
D. Eleven volunteers attended orientation for Summer 2006 on May 24. Summer schedules were established
and instructions were given regarding work and activity requirements.
II. COLLECTION
A. A large hardcover order for Juvenile and YA titles was placed this month.
B. Titles were ordered as a part of the Listening Library/Books on CD standing order.
C. An order for music CD’s for children was placed against the donation account.
D. Easy shelving has been relabeled.
III. PROJECTS
A. The schedule for classroom visits to District 13 schools has been established. Staff will be
visiting North Park Elementary on May 31, Valley View Elementary on June 1, and Highland
Elementary on June 6. A visit to CMS is a potential, though not yet scheduled.
B. At the request of Highland Elementary Principal, Katherine Page, we will be recording the reading level
of students entering the Summer Reading Program. Staff will be asked to refer students to materials on
their reading level in an effort to help the school district maintain or improve reading scores in the fall.
IV. MEETINGS
A. Children’s Librarian, Marsha Tubbs, attended a Summer Reading Program meeting at the County on May
10. The meeting is convened annually as a preparation for the upcoming summer programs.
B. Volunteers for the 2006 season met with staff on May 24 for orientation. Volunteers received instructions
on completing time sheets, appropriate dress and library policies. We have a total of 14 volunteers for the
upcoming summer.
C. Children’s Librarian, Marsha Tubbs, joined the Director on May 23 in a meeting with part time staff
(Pages) to negotiate work schedules for summer 2006.
V. STAFF
A. Pages completed the shelf re-labeling project and aided in the preparation of summer reading club flyers
and brochures.
B. Library Aide, Cristy Tombarge, prepared two display areas for summer reading, printed the library
newsletter and countless materials for Summer Reading Programs, aided at the circulation desk during
large group visits, and placed several book orders,
C. Library Clerk, Kelly Olson, received books, prepared month-end statistics, prepared copy for summer
reading program materials, and prepared volunteer orientation materials. Kelly finished serials cleanup
project and forwarded the updated listing to Lynne Weiss at Anoka County.
