Friends of the Library: The Friends met for a luncheon meeting on Monday, April 3 at 11:00 a.m. at the Dragon House restaurant in Columbia Heights. They discussed the book sale and a “work” sign up sheet was passed around. I informed the Friends of volunteer opportunities available for the grand opening of the Minneapolis Public Library on May 20. The Friend’s next st meeting is Monday, May 1 at 1:00 in the Library Boardroom. At this meeting they will finalize their plans for the upcoming book sale. B. At Home Service: No deliveries were made this month to “at home” patrons. It was reported that homebound patron Viava Salmon died this month. She was an avid listener to books on cassette and CD, which were delivered to her every month for the last several years. II. COLLECTION DEVELOPMENT: A. I began an order for books on CD and will complete it next month. I also began ordering travel information from state tourism bureaus for use in the vertical file. III. PROJECTS AND GOALS: th A. Tax forms: The tax form display was dismantled on Tuesday, April 18. It was a quieter than normal tax season and many forms and booklets were recycled. Next year, I recommend that we order fewer forms and booklets. B. Bulletin board: A new bulletin board was displayed this month, and it promotes the annual Book th Sale scheduled for Thursday, June 8, 9:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. C. Supply ordering: A variety of office and library supplies were ordered this month including an additional counter release key. All juvenile videos, CD’s and DVD’s were moved from the adult department to children’s, and the additional release key will be used in that department. D. Supply budget: The supply budget was updated through March 24, 2006. E. Fidelity Cleaners: The cleaner is doing an adequate job and responds promptly to any messages I leave. F. Scrapbooks: The scrapbook was updated to include news articles through April 2006. G. Photo albums: I have completed inserting all loose photos in the album with a few still to be labeled. The project will then be completed. H. Volunteers: Two hours of service was performed by “Adopt-a-shelf-volunteers.” I. National Library Week: To celebrate NLW, I prepared a proclamation that was read at an April City Council meeting and a guess contest was held at the library. NLW bookmarks were also made available to patrons. IV. MISCELLANEOUS A. Prepared copy for the May edition of the Library newsletter. B. Prepared weekly task calendar. C. Posted weekly a copy of the New York Times Best Seller List. D. Supervised staff while Becky was out of the office 4/26-4/28. MMK/jms
