Friends of the Library: The Friends of the Library met on Monday, March 6 at 1:00 p.m. in the Library Boardroom. Becky Loader and Tom Sherohman made a presentation to the Friends on the Library Foundation. The annual Book Sale dates were set: books will be taken from storage on 6/5; sorted on 6/6, presale held the evening of 6/7, annual book sale on 6/8, and cleanup the morning of 6/9. President Nancy Rathbun will develop a schedule of workers for the sale. The Friends will meet next for a luncheon meeting on April 3 at 11:30 a.m. at the Dragon House Restaurant. II. COLLECTION DEVELOPMENT: A. I did not work on collection development this month. III. PROJECTS AND GOALS: A. Adult Reading Program: 149 adults registered for “Hot Reads for Cold Nights”, and 20 participants each won a $5.00 gift certificate from the business of their choice. Their choices were: McDonald’s, Half Price Books, Barnes and Noble, Target, Panera, or Caribou Coffee. B. Tax forms: Vol. 2 of the federal tax forms and Package XM of Minnesota reproducible forms were finally received this month. In the last week of March, many patrons have been in for tax forms. C. Book display: This month’s book display in the lobby is: Spring…do-it-yourself ideas and features books on outdoor projects such as: garden woodworking, deck building, patio construction, and building birdhouses and garden furniture. New books were also added to the display in the Adult Reading Room and marked with a “New” tag. D. Fidelity Cleaners: A new permanent cleaner has been hired, and he has been doing an adequate job. E. Volunteers: Twelve hours of volunteer time was clocked in March by two teenagers participating in the Adopt-a-Shelf program and by Friends of the Library members delivery of books to the homebound. F. Supply ordering: A variety of library supplies were ordered this month including security tags for CD’s and DVD’s. G. Supply budget: The supply budget was updated through 3/13/06. H. User’s Guide: The User’s Guide was updated and an order placed to IPC Printing for 250 copies. IV. MISCELLANEOUS A. Sent March newsletter to ACL and City staff. B. Submitted articles for the summer edition of Heights Happenings. C. Posted weekly a copy of the New York Times Best Seller List. D. Prepared copy for the April edition of the Library newsletter. E. Prepared weekly task calendars. F. Supervised staff and conducted a staff meeting when Becky was away from the office on Friday, 3/24. MMK/jms
