Rebecca Loader, Library Director SUBJECT: March operational report DATE: March 31, 2006 I. BUILDING MAINTENANCE A. Honeywell replaced the filters in the HVAC 3/1. B. Honeywell was called 3/3, 3/14, and 3/15 in response to the boiler and heat pump malfunctioning. The wiring between the pump and the boiler and defective parts in the pump were all replaced 3/16. C. The windows were cleaned 3/7. D. The new paperback racks arrived 3/8. Three units had to be returned, as the spinners were the wrong size. E. Repairs were made to two lighting fixtures in the Adult Reading Room 3/1 and 3/9. F. Public Works fixed several small maintenance items 3/17. G. Fidelity buffed the Activity Room floors 3/17. H. The wooden slatwall shelving for the Children’s audio books arrived 3/21. Nick assembled the unit, and it looks great! I. The maintenance contract with Dalco for the library roof was renewed for 2006. J. The elevator malfunctioned 3/28 with patrons inside. The Fire Department rescued the people, and Schindler repaired the elevator. II. COLLECTION A. Juvenile and adult DVD’s were ordered. B. Adult music cd’s were ordered. C. Two adult paperback orders were processed. D. Inventory of the easy readers was completed. E. A large print order was placed and received. F. Marsha completed the weeding in J000-J599. III. PROGRAMS A. The Library Board met 3/2 with four members present. B. The bulk loan was delivered to the schools 3/2. C. Adult Reading Club ended 3/4. D. The Friends met 3/6 with five members present. E. The Immaculate Conception School classes visited the Library during their regularly- scheduled times 3/20 thru 3/24. F. Marsha presented an English as a Second Language storytime at the Family Center 3/22. G. Board Vice-President Patricia Sowada and Board member Lynette Thomson accepted the National Library Week Proclamation from Mayor Gary Peterson at the City Council meeting 3/27. IV. TECHNOLOGY A. Al continues to work on CybraryN. He has installed patches with varying degrees of success to fix different problems. Staff reports all error numbers and text messages to the operator email account. V. STAFF A. Jeanine participated in a cable shoot 3/1. B. Becky and Foundation President Tom Sherohman gave a presentation on the history and mission of the Foundation at the Friends’ meeting 3/6. C. Interviews for the vacant Page positions were held the week of 3/6. Two regular Pages and one substitute Page were hired from a field of 33 applicants. Training started 3/30. D. Marsha met with Children’s Press representative Jack Kubbitz 3/8. E. Becky attended the Locations meeting 3/15. Progress is being made on this project, and an all-day meeting to finish has been set for 4/5. F. Becky attended the ILS meeting 3/16. G. Becky met with Library Board members Catherine Vesley and Barbara Miller 3/17 to discuss participation in the citizens’ committee for the proposed Community Center. H. Joanne prepared the Library’s auction list. I. Kelly and Becky attended Acquisitions training with Judy and Lynne 3/23. J. Jeanine participated in a cable shoot 3/29. VI. FOUNDATION A. The Foundation Board met 3/15 with four members present. B. Sharon presented the financial statement and reported that form 990 has been filed. C. Ten participants have signed up already for the “Tell Me More” summer program. D. Potential names for the vacant Board positions were discussed. E. The Board will be honoring an individual and a business with a plaque in recognition of their support of the Foundation. VII. MISC A. Completion of State version of 2005 annual report by deadline. B. A man attempted a theft of two videos 3/15. The police responded, and he has been trespassed from the Library for six months. C. Becky worked with Marlene Moulton-Janssen (ACL Director) and Todd Mahon (ACHS Executive Director) to submit a LSTA grant application to digitize historic print and artifact collections relevant to Anoka County. The project would be very relevant to the Sesquicentennial of the County that will be celebrated in 2007. D. Major projects: a. CybraryN b. Data clean-up c. Recruit and hire Pages d.
