Rebecca Loader, Library Director SUBJECT: February operational report DATE: February 28, 2006 I. BUILDING MAINTENANCE A. EMC Services replaced the water meter 2/1. Public Works disposed of the old meter. B. Honeywell had to reset the water pump attached to the boiler 2/9. C. Honeywell replaced the heat exchanger unit over the west side of the building 2/10. D. The windows were cleaned 2/10. E. The recycling dumpster was replaced 2/14 with one that has a metal lid. F. The departmental copier required a service call 2/16. G. Public Works replaced burnt-out light bulbs on both floors 2/17. H. Fidelity buffed the Activity Room floor 2/17. I. Fidelity assigned a new cleaner to the Library 2/21. J. Orkin performed routine maintenance 2/23. II. COLLECTION A. Two dvd orders were placed. Dana Weigman is working on verifying a large juvenile DVD order. As the juvenile videos are phased out, the collection needs the DVD format replacements to meet patron demand. B. Two book orders and one paperback order were placed. C. Preparations to shut down the old shelf list are in process. III. PROGRAMS A. The bulk loan was delivered to the schools 2/2. B. The Friends met 2/6 with 9 members present. C. Four sessions of storytime were held during the month. D. The Library Board met 2/7 with five members present. E. Immaculate Conception School visited the Library during its regularly scheduled times the week of 2/13. IV. TECHNOLOGY A. Al has been trouble shooting CybraryN in an effort to reduce patrons log-outs and error reports. He loaded a new utility in the machine 2/10. Staff is keeping careful records of errors and re-boots. B. Becky attended a presentation by Triumph Technology on adaptive technology 2/14 at LSS. Devices for use by the low-vision/blind and hard-of-hearing/deaf population were demonstrated. C. Kelly has completed a data clean-up project with Nick’s help. V. STAFF A. Applications were taken for the vacant Page positions through 2/22. Two regular positions and one substitute are open. th B. Marsha celebrated her 12 year as Children’s Librarian. C. Becky attended meetings of the Locations Committee twice in February. Progress is being made on standardizing data structure and staff understanding of how SIRSI constructs data entries. D. Becky attended the ILS meeting 2/16. Heather Hessell, IT Supervisor for ACL, is leaving to pursue a position at the University of Minnesota. Heather has been instrumental in getting the new ILS up and running. Staff has appreciated her expertise and hard work on this project. E. ACL, CHPL, and ACHC are joining to submit a LSTA grant application. The joint project will concentrate on digitizing historical documents and pictures and making them available online. F. Sarah Doepel completed her six months probation as a Page. G. Alicia Cermak celebrated her fifth year as a Page and was honored with a cake and beverages. VI. FOUNDATION A. The Foundation Board met 2/15 for a brief business meeting. Discussion centered on the second MRAC grant and recruitment of a new member. VII. MISC A. Completion of City version of 2005 Annual Report. B. Major projects: a. CybraryN b. Selection and ordering equipment funded by donations c. Data clean-up d. A MELSA crossover use survey was conducted 2/6-2/11 e. Set booksale date and reserve equipment f.
