Rebecca Loader, Library Director SUBJECT: December operational report DATE: December 30, 2005 I. BUILDING MAINTENANCE A. Honeywell replaced the filters in the HVAC 12/1. B. Centerpoint Energy responded 12/9 to a call concerning an unusual smell in the exterior courtyard. The crew shut down the heat exchanger on the rooftop unit on the west side of the building because it was emitting carbon monoxide. Honeywell disconnected the unit and has the peripheral heat temporarily turned up to compensate until the unit can be replaced. C. Public Works removed graffiti from the men’s restroom 12/13. D. The windows were cleaned 12/16. II. COLLECTION A. Final cd and dvd orders were submitted for 2005. B. Because of decreases in discounts and increases in shipping and handling, Marsha is considering dropping the BWI standing orders and switching to Baker & Taylor. C. Staff is currently doing collection maintenance using the reports for missing, display-to-go- home, and withdrawns. D. Weeding for 2005 is very behind. Staff hopes to catch up in the first quarter of 2006. III. PROGRAMS A. The bulk loan was delivered to the schools 12/1. B. The Jingle Bell Tea 12/3 played to a capacity crowd. C. The Friends met 12/5 with 8 members present. D. The Library Board met 12/6 with 6 members present. E. Immaculate Conception School classes visited the Library during their regularly-scheduled times the week of 12/12. F. Brian Richards presented a magic show 12/28. IV. TECHNOLOGY A. Becky and Jeanine participated in a train-the-trainer class 12/14 on CybraryN, the new pc management system. They will train the COH staff on site. B. Becky attended the ILS meeting 12/15. C. Metro Communications installed new cat5e cable 12/19 and 12/20 at the Library. All new runs for pc management and wi-fi are complete. D. The necessary hardware has been ordered for the pc management system. V. STAFF A. Marsha presented the second Minnesota Regional Arts Council (MRAC) grant to the review board 12/3. time. B. Becky attended the MELSA-sponsored meeting 12/6 on the new State plan for libraries. C. Dana toured the Minnesota Workforce Center 12/6. D. The Foundation Board met 12/7 with 5 members present. E. Becky attended the Library Operations Council meeting 12/8. F. The staff celebrated the holidays at a dinner at Applebee’s 12/11. Thanks to Dana for organizing the event and devising a very clever library-related bingo game. G. Staff attended the City holiday party 12/13. H. Marsha attended the storytelling meeting at the County 12/20. I. Becky met with the Pages 12/21 to negotiate winter schedule. J. Jeanine participated in a cable shoot 12/28. VI. FOUNDATION A. Board President, Tom Sherohman received notice that the second MRAC grant has been funded for summer 2006. B. The Foundation fundraiser at the Heights Theatre 12/18 was a wonderful success. The house was sold out, and bidding on the silent auction was brisk. Thanks to everyone who worked so hard to make it work. VII. MISC A. Major projects: 1. Preparations for pc management and wi-fi. 2. Work on the proposed 2006 budget. 3. Winter schedules for part-time Library Supervisors and Pages. 4. Preparation of 2006 seasonal plan. 5. Year-end statistics. 6. Patron clean-up.
