COLLECTION A. Staff has begun heavy weeding of the easy picture book collection to clear shelving space for books on tape and compact disc. This will enable us to eliminate one of the yellow shelving units and create floor space for some much needed audio/visual shelving in the Children’s Department. C. Paperback weeding has been completed for all sections (J, YA, and EJ) in preparation for standing order changes and collection development. D. Because of decreases in discounts and increases in shipping and handling, standing order arrangements have been made for paperback materials through Baker and Taylor. E. Standing orders for books on compact disc were established through Random House. F. A large book order (remainders from 2005) was placed for young adult fiction and juvenile fiction G. All public PC’s, including the catalog, were moved to the west wall of the department as a part of the new AnokatPlus (CybraryN) implementation. This opened up the room considerably and gives the librarian full view of all catalog activity. H. The first collection report giving a listing of high-circulated items was run this month. Staff will be looking at these items for potential replacement or discard. I. All music audiocassettes were withdrawn from the collection to make room for the new materials on compact disc. III. PROJECTS & MEETINGS A. AnokatPlus (CybraryN) was installed on January 19. The system gives improved Internet access within the building along with some additional print options. Patron response has been very positive. Frequently we will find all terminals full. We are registering many NEW patrons who have previously not made use of library services. Library staff has done an exceptional job in presenting the new electronic services to the public, once again exhibiting their ability to adjust to the ever-changing world of information services. The Library Director, along with members of the ACL staff, spent endless hours preparing for these latest innovations. On behalf of the staff and the patrons, thank you everyone for your efforts. B. Library staff designed, prepared, and printed signage and instruction sheets to accompany the installation of the NEW AnokatPlus (CybraryN) system. C. Summer Reading Club preparations are in full swing. Children’s Librarian, Marsha Tubbs met with ACL librarians on two separate occasions to prepare and plan for the 2006 season. The theme for both programs in 2006 will be “Catch the Beat at your Library”. Marsha will be contacting Target and Wal-Mart requesting donations of gift cards as prizes and incentives for the teen program. D. Summer performers have been booked.
