Rebecca Loader, Library Director SUBJECT: January operational report DATE: January 31, 2006 I. BUILDING MAINTENANCE A. A leak in the water meter was discovered January 4. A replacement was ordered and installed. B. The elevator required a service call January 6. C. Heights Electric had to run an additional outlet to the new Public Access Catalog location January 6. In the process, they corrected a circuit problem. D. The windows were cleaned January 10. E. The Library passed the annual fire inspection January 12. F. The activity room floors were buffed January 20. G. Public Works fixed miscellaneous maintenance items at the building January 19. H. Mary conducted a walk-through inspection with Fidelity Cleaners January 27. II. COLLECTION A. Kelly has completed the 2005 acquisitions project and has set up the 2006 accounts. Three book orders are ready to be placed. B. A dvd order and a cd order are in process. C. Marsha is weeding the picture books and shifting materials. III. PROGRAMS A. The Library Board met January 3, with all members present. B. Immaculate Conception School classes visited the Library during their regularly scheduled times the week of January 22. C. The bulk loan was delivered to the schools January 12. D. Marsha participated in Family Night programs at Highland Elementary (January 23) and North Park Elementary (January 26.) E. Adult Reading Club, “Hot Reads for Cold Nights,” began January 23. F. Two sessions of preschool storytime were held during the month. IV. TECHNOLOGY A. Aleksandr and Paul cut over all computers in the building to the new cabling January 6. They were able to convert two old patched runs and eliminate the oldest cabling as part of the project. B. CybraryN went live on January 19 at Columbia Heights. The Queue workstation had to be moved from the planned location when the machine picked up interference from the security system gates. Luckily, an extra cable had been strung to the PAC locations, and Al was able to utilize it for the Queue. Staff has registered tons (at least) of cards and given out millions (seemingly) of PINS. The patron response has been very positive, as they really like having more machines available for longer sessions of time. The reports have been very easy to retrieve. V. STAFF A. The Page schedule changed January 3 and will be in effect till the vacant positions are filled. B. In January Becky attended meetings on pc management and data locations. She also attended the Public Service meeting at the County January 12. C. Kelly trained the staff in the new library card policy the week of January 9. D. Staff was grained on CybraryN from January 11 to January 21. E. Marsha attended the checque presentation for the new MRAC grant with the Foundation Board January 18. She also attended a grant-writing workshop with Foundation Board members January 23. F. Teri Olberding celebrated her one-year anniversary as a Page in January. G. Marsha attended the Teen Read Meeting at Northtown January 25. VI. FOUNDATION A. The Foundation Board met January 11, with all members present. Cliff Shedlov presented the information on awards he had gathered. Mary Ann Herringer regretfully submitted her resignation and said she will continue to be involved in the fundraisers. Tom Sherohman discussed the MRAC grant and other grant opportunities. Tom Letness, owner of the Heights Theatre, has asked the Foundation to assist in the Theatre’s anniversary celebration, and Board members talked about the project. VII. MISC A. 2005 sales tax was submitted to the State. B. Major projects: a. Preparation of 2006 budget working documents. b. Distribution of staff budgets. c. Cybrary N. d. Year-end reports. e. City annual report. f. Preparation of wish list for Friends. VIII CIRCULATION AND LIBGIS DECEMBER Circulation 2004 2005 Libgis 2004 2005 Adult Effective 2/1/2005 Daily Statistics for December not Juvenile Libgis statistics were available at the present time. Work days discontinued. MELSA crossover statistics will be used to project annual totals. Circulation Building DECEMBER 2004 DECEMBER 2005 Statistics for December not available at the present time.
