COLLECTION A. Staff continued checking book selection tools in an effort to catch up. Currently both children’s and adult selection tools are caught up to June 2005. B. Began collection development in the YA materials. We are in sorry need of the circulation breakdowns for 2005 and I sincerely hope that they arrive soon. It is difficult to determine where to spend materials funds without the ability to check for “hot” circulation within the collection. As our YA materials have been circulation very well in the past it made sense to do some collection development in this area. C. The new “DISPLAY” patron was put to use this month in conjunction with Teen Read Week programs. “REAListic” fiction is on display along with the newly created booklists. Teens are also being offered the option to SWAP books. Programming will continue through Children’s Book Week in November III. PROJECTS A. With the help of Tom Sherohman, the 2006 MRAC grant application was submitted this month. I received formal notice that the grant application has been received. The review process will be the first and second weekends in December. I will accompany Tom to the review if possible. B. Staff continues to work on advertising related to the fundraiser scheduled for December 18. News releases have been prepared for Heights Happening. Posters and flyers are nearly complete. The Foundation has requested all materials be printed and ready by November 16. C. Staff is currently preparing for Children’s Book Week in November. Plans include take-home activities and an imagination contest. The theme for Children’s Book Week is “IMAGINE”. Columbia Heights Public Library has taken the theme one step further to IMAGINATION REIGNS at the library. IV. BUILDING MAINTENANCE A. The children’s department took on water after the storms of 10/3. Public works was called and DuAll came in to extract the water and dry out the carpet. B. The Activity Room floor was buffed on 10/28. V. MEETINGS A. I attended the CHILDLIB Summer Reading Program wrap-up meeting on October 18. Meeting notes are attached. B. I also attended the Columbia Heights Public Library Foundation meeting on October 12 in the Director’s absence. Notes on that meeting have been forwarded to the Director via e-mail. VI. STAFF ?? Pages worked diligently on selection tools and order cards. They also processed new materials and aided in the preparation of posters, flyers, and the Sampler (library newsletter). ??
