COLLECTION A. BWI standing orders were updated this month to include newly released titles not currently a part of our collection. B. A large book order was placed via the new B&T online ordering system. Online ordering is taking some additional time while staff acclimates to the new procedures. C. Weeding and collection development are temporarily on hold until some things are worked out within the SIRSI programs. III. PROJECTS A. Enrollment in the summer reading programs is keeping us very busy. One month into the program, we have 165 Teens registered in the Tune in at the Library program and 399 children registered in the What’s Buzzin at the Library program for a total of 564 children--. 154 short of last year’s total registration with nearly two months to go. B. The Tell Me More creative storytellers are off to a great start. We have a smaller group than anticipated but a very dynamic group. They have been investigating myths and legends and are in the process of creating their first group tale. Reports from participants are extremely positive and reports from parents are even better. C. CLIP Columbia Heights School District and the Columbia Heights Public Library are again collaborating on summer programming. Representatives from the Anoka County Children and Family Council School Based Teams are meeting 4 times a week with children at three different sites. They are reading to the children for 20 minutes each session and providing library materials for the children to read on their own. The Library supplied reading records and incentives and reading materials for the group sessions. Team leaders are keeping records on all who participate to submit at the close of the program. D. Plans are underway for the Library’s annual American Girl gathering. This year’s party will feature Nellie the latest of the American girls and will include crafts and games from the turn of the century (1906). E. Again this year our volunteers are outstanding! We have a total of ten volunteers this summer and three of the ten have been with us for more than two years. It is great to have such a high caliber of volunteer help, we could not maintain the high level of programming we have without them. F. Wacky Wednesday Performances are pulling in large crowds. Average attendance through the month of June was 105 per performance. IV. STAFF A. Pages completed the magazine-mending project, continued program preparations including preparation of crafts and program flyers, and processed several book orders. B. Library Aide, Cristy Tombarge assisted in program preparations, established a Going Buggie over books display, aided in the preparation of crafts and began preparations for American Girl C. Library Clerk, Kelly Olson, spent a large portion of the month establishing new accounts within the ILS for our 150 plus magazine collection. She sent and received several book orders, sent an update to BWI for our standing orders, and prepared a layout and copy for the monthly newsletter.
