Rebecca Loader, Library Director SUBJECT: September operational report DATE: September 30, 2005 I. BUILDING MAINTENANCE A. Schindler added oil to the elevator’s tank 9/2. B. Honeywell performed routine maintenance on the HVAC 9/2 and cleaned the boiler 9/16. C. Fidelity stripped and waxed the floors in the Activity Room and Break Room 9/3. D. Honeywell recommended that the heat exchanger on the rooftop unit above the Adult Reading Room be replaced. Becky will follow up on the issue. II. COLLECTION A. Staff started using COHNEW BOOKS and COH DISPLAY accounts 9/20, which will help everyone more readily locate materials. B. Numerous orders were placed and received over the month. Staff is working hard to catch up on the backlog and to devise the most efficient way to process materials with the new ILS. C. Weeding is behind. Becky finished the adult 000’s and started the 100’s. D. Adds for high demand items are being ordered every week. III. PROGRAMS A. Saturday hours changed to 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on 9/10. B. The Library Board met 9/6 with all members in attendance. C. The first bulk loan of the season was delivered 9/8. D. The Friends met 9/12 with 8 members present. They asked Becky to give an update on how much of the money they donated to the Library had been expended so far. E. Registration for Fall Storytime started 9/12. F. Immaculate Conception School classes visited the Library the week of 9/19. G. The Columbia Heights Sister Cities organization will put up a display in honor of Polish- American month 9/29. IV. TECHNOLOGY A. The Hold Shelf Clean-Up Report is being run the first Thursday of each month. This report has helped staff locate problems with the Hold Shelf and resolve them in a timely manner. B. Staff continues to gain skills through using the new ILS. V. STAFF A. Becky attended three meetings at the County during the month: ILS (9/1), LOC (9/8), and OPAC (9/26). She also attended the second Wi-FI vendor presentation 9/15. B. Amanda Blaise celebrated her 18-month work anniversary, and Mary Kloss celebrated her th 27 year work anniversary during the month. C. The new Pages (Gretchen, Sarah, and Keri) are gaining experience with their new skills on the ILS. D. Fall schedule started the week of 9/5. VI. FOUNDATION A. The Library Board and Foundation Board held a retreat 9/10 in the Anoka County History Center’s meeting room. They discussed long range planning, and the roles they can play in providing support for the Library. th B. The Foundation Board met 9/14 with four members present. Plans for the December 18 fundraiser at the Heights Theatre were discussed. VII. MISC A. Major projects a. Implementation of the ILS b. Work concerning the 2006 proposed Library budget. B. The Library was closed 9/22 due to power and access issues resulting from storm damage.
