HomeMy WebLinkAboutJanuary 25, 1989CITY OF COLUMBIA HEIGHTS PARK BOARD MINUTES JANUARY 25, ]989 ROLL CALL Members present: Al so present: Bill Hollom, Jim Fowler, Rita Petkoff, Veronica Schlagel, Al Kennedy, John Murzyn, Fred Saisbury Director Public Works/City Engineer Todd Stutz, Director HRA The meeting was caited to order by Chairperson Bi11 Hollom at 6:30 p.m. READING OF TIlE MINUTES Motion by Petkoff, second by Kennedy that the reading of the minutes of the December 14, 1988 meeting, be dispensed with and accepted as written. All ayes, motion carried. PAYMENT OF THE BILLS Motion by Schlagel, second by Fowler to approve that the bills be paid out of the proper funds. All ayes, motI:on carried. LETTERS AND REQUESTS REQUEST HALL/COLUMBIA HEIGHTS LIONS CLUB Motion by Murzyn, second by Petkoff to reserve the main hall, LaBeile Lounge and kitchen for the Columbia Heights Lions for their Annual Sweetheart dance on February lO, 1990; and, furthermore to waive the fee for the same. All ayes, motion carried. REQUEST OSTRANDER BUILDING/GERMAN-AMERICAN PARTNERSHIPS Motion by Murzyn, second by Fowler to reserve the Ostrander Park Building for a garage sale on April ]3-15 and May 4-6, and to waive the fee for same. The permission is granted with the understanding that care is taken and that the building is cleaned up daily and thoroughly after each use. All ayes, motion carried. REQUEST SOFTBALL TOURNAMENT/LETTERMEN SPORTS Motion by Petkoff, second by Fowler to authorize a tournament' to be held by the Lettermen Sports on July 29th and 30th, 1989. This authorization is granted with the stipulation that all policies for a tournament established by the Park Board are met and providing all requirement.s are fulfilled for the City of Columbia Heights. All ayes, motion carried. COLUMBIA HEIGHTS PARK BOARD MEETING MINUTES JANUARY 25, 1989 PAGE TWO OLD BUSINESS None NEW BUSINESS None TODD STUTZ/WARGO COURT Todd S~utz attended the meeting to explain what HRA is planning regarding the reconstruction of Wargo Court. The architect is Stan Fishman and the projected budget is $50,000. The plans are to upgrade the fountain, the pool area is to be enlarged, replace sidewalk, underground sprinkler system, new 6enches and trash containers, additional boulders and plantings. After discussion, motion by Petkoff, second by Kennedy to'accept the plans and specifications that were submitted to us by Todd Stutz. All ayes, motion carried. REPORTS STAFF Salsbury stated that the skating and hockey rinks were in very bad shape because of the warm weather. JOHN SETTLEMIRE Mr. Settlemire, caretaker at Murzyn Hall, attended the meeting to ask the Board to reconsider their present rules regarding alcohol, He stated that 45% of the renters hire outside bartenders and the rest have their family or friends take care of the bar. He felt that family or friends are not always in condition to handle the bar. He felt that the Board should require licensed bartenders to work the bar and maybe have a list of bartenders available for the renters to pick from. After much discussion several of the Board Members stated they did not want to get into the liquor business. Salsbury stated that he would look into the options available and get back to the members at the next meeting. Hollom suggested that Salsbury check with the City Attorney and see at what point we could implement such a plan. Board member Fowler had several questions. Who makes the profit from the candy machine at Murzyn Hall? TheYouth Drop In Center. Who makes the profit from the candy machine at City Hall. The profit from all candy machines is given to the city to cover Christmas party and any special events. Who buys the pool balls? The pool balls are bought by the city. COLUMBIA HEIGHTS PARK BOARD MEET t~C~ KIRUTES JANUARY 25, 1989 PAGE THREE It was brought to the attention of the 9ark Board that the Senior Citizens have taken the davenport, chairs and end tables out of the Senior's room and have moved them into the Youth Center. Motion by Petkoff, second by Schlagel to suggest thatwe write a letter to the Senior Coordinator stating that if they no longer want the above named furniture, that they reimburse the Park Board for a suitable amount to cover same. All ayes, motion carried. ADJOURNMENT Motion by Kennedy, second by Schlagel to adjourn. carried.
